DIY Rescue Story 🚨

Sometimes DIY projects go exactly as planned…

…and sometimes they turn into a whole lot of sanding. 😅

This basement bar was one of those projects.

The homeowner originally tackled this epoxy project himself. After multiple coats and an uneven finish, he reached out to a few professionals for advice. One company recommended sanding everything back down and starting over. So that’s exactly what he did.

According to his wife, he spent hours and hours sanding this entire bar top trying to save it.

Eventually, they reached out to me for help.

The good news? Not every epoxy mistake means you have to tear everything out and start over. With the right prep work and experience, we were able to transform this surface into the rich metallic finish you see here.

Before: A DIY project that didn’t turn out as planned.
After: A custom metallic bar top ready for game days, family gatherings, and making memories.

I always tell people there’s nothing wrong with trying a project yourself. Sometimes it works out great. Sometimes you learn that having a professional step in can save time, money, and frustration.

The funny thing about being a woman in construction/art contracting is the comments over the years 😅

“Wait… YOU do this yourself?”
“Where’s your crew?”
“When does the contractor show up?”
“You actually install these?”

Meanwhile I’m over here carrying buckets of epoxy, climbing on counters, sanding for hours, and creating custom finishes from scratch 😂

Honestly though - for every weird comment, I’ve had 100 amazing clients who trusted the process, appreciated the creativity, and supported my business over the years. Those are my people. ❤️

The clients who choose me usually aren’t looking for “cookie cutter.” They appreciate artistry, trust the vision, and understand that this is a skill I’ve spent years building.

And I’ll never stop being grateful for that. ✨
