I checked the mail and my garden guide arrived. I am so honored that one of my photos was chosen for this year's cover. Sad I won't be in one of my gardens for the tour this year. It is the first time in ten years I do not have a garden on the tour. It makes me happy to still contribute to something that made such a huge impact in my life. This photo was taken in a garden I designed for clients who found me through this tour. What a wonderful way to end Earth Day.

If you have never attended this tour, you are in for a real treat. For info visit: http://www.bringingbackthenatives.net/

Also, btw I've moved to Seattle!

Established water feature inspired by the client's explorations in the Sierra. A long sweet summer bloom is enjoyed with a pink selection of Scarlet Monkey Flower. Seeing this yesterday got me excited about the backpacking trips I am planning over the coming weeks - can't wait to get up into the mountains and bring back more inspiration to new garden designs!

A big thank you to the talented Shannon O'Hare for moving the heavy boulder in place, getting the water to flow just so over the stone, and installing the subterranean water catchment basin with automatic refill valve - it's been working great, excellent work!

Inspired by the Bringing Back the Natives Garden Tour, Gaston and Ariane removed most of their very large lawn (leaving a patch the size of a volleyball court), and worked collaboratively with Liz Simpson of Liz Simpson Garden Design to create the beautiful, water-conserving, bird- and bee-friendly…

Congrats to Kathy Kramer who organizes the Bringing Back the Natives Garden Tour for receiving The Jefferson Award - Monica said it best: "you deserve it for creating such a special event for so many people in the Bay Area. The tour is truly a gem!"

Garden Tour Coordinator Kathy Kramer receives Jefferson Award; today was spent filming gardens with CBS reporter Kate Kelly! The piece will run next week; details to follow.
