Today’s Moon Day Math day, my 9-year-old daughter told me she was getting rid of me, had everything covered, and that I didn’t need to teach math today so I could do what I want.
Then she takes me upstairs and shows me this:
On our dry erase board there is math problems and review work completed by her, her 11-year-old brother, her 8-year-old brother, and even her 2-year-old sister. Love the initiative that she took.
She then also admits she actually wanted me downstairs so she could have more time on the computer. I’m good with that—especially since they enjoy CTCMath too.
My 11-year-old son also says, “I don’t want to do any more math, I just want to chill and be Adis.” And I’m okay with that too. He had a very emotional weekend, and if today is what his mind and body need to reset, then I’m going to honor that. He’s learning how to listen to himself, and I trust that process.
Because that’s part of learning—knowing yourself, listening to your body, and trusting yourself.

This is what perfect parenting looks like for me—not controlling my children, but mastering myself through patience, practice, inner work, healing, being open to truly hear them and working together with them.

P.S. This was also a good time to go over English Language Arts and a reminder to slow down when spelling words, sounding them out slowly and slowing down when writing so words can be legible. It's all learning, growing, loving, connecting, communicating and progressing. I love it!!
