It's May 1. Time to check out a few things happening in my Zone 5b garden. Hyacinth is in bloom, tulips are about to open, onions are popping up amongst the strawberries, lovage is getting big, chamomile and oregano are leafing out. So many other things going on too. Big gardening weekend ahead.

Beefsteak tomatoes are just poking their heads above the soil. You can just make out where the seed leaves will open. They were germinating in paper towel, and in the dark (for about a week). Now that they are under grow lights they will start to get green and straighten up.

I am late this year but I am finally germinating some seeds. This is my preferred method. I place the seeds in damp paper towels and then in a container. The container goes in a dark cupboard. I check them a couple times a week and when they got roots I pluck them out and put them in soil and then under grow lights.
