This tree looked like it had been properly pruned within the last few years, but at some point was left unchecked. The resulting overgrowth was an interesting challenge to clean up for this tree. These before and after's are from a rather overgrown maple placed next to a flowing water feature. It has clearly been a while since it has been pruned and the interior structure has not been refined very well. We gave it a lot of help, but major structural pruning is best done in the winter when the tree is dormant.

Did you know that Japanese Maples have flowers? Most maples flower in the Spring like this native Vine Maple, but the blossoms are often overlooked due to their small size and inconspicuousness. The flowers are also rather shortlived, as they quickly fruit into the iconic winged Samaras so unique to maples. These short lived and hidden blossoms are an underappreciated sight, and are worth taking in if one is willing put in the time to find them.

These before and after's are from another tree we got to prune last year. It's a large maple that hadn't been pruned in a while, but at its core has an absolutely beautiful, intertwining structure. It is incredibly satisfying thinning out such a thick barrier of leaves and revealing the tree's hidden beauty.

Here is one tree we managed to get to over the weekend, which was the perfect time as it hadn't leafed out yet. It wasn't in too bad of shape, but definitely needed a little love. This tree was one of several we worked on as a group all the way out in Washougal. It was a bit of a long drive, but the gorgeous views more than made up for it.
