It's moving season! We've been busy helping our clients unpack and get settled into their new homes. Here are a few pro tips to lessen the overwhelm if you're unpacking from a move:
1. Unpack ALL the boxes in the entire room BEFORE you put anything away. As you're taking items out of the box, group like items together (ex: plates, glasses, mugs, pantry items by category).
2. Use post-it notes on every drawer and cabinet to map out where your items will go. We like to set up "zones" in every room (ex: in the kitchen, you'd have a cooking zone, cleaning zone, food storage zone, etc.)
2. Use post-it notes to map out where your items will go and put those post-it notes on every drawer and cabinet. We like to set up "zones" (ex: cooking zone, cleaning zone, food storage zone, etc.)
3. Donate items you no longer need.
4. Keep a running list of items that might be helpful to keep things organized (ex: a turntable on a higher shelf so you can access things that might otherwise get lost in the back).
5. Get help if you can - it's daunting to unpack an entire home by yourself.
When we do this for clients, we have the movers put the boxes in each room and we take it from there...unpacking and organizing it all so you can walk into a clean and inviting space without lifting a finger (unless you want to)!
