⚡ LIGHTNING IS BEAUTIFUL. UNTIL IT STARTS SOMETHING.

🔥 THE ROSS FIRE IS A SOBERING REMINDER: WILDFIRE RISK DOESN’T WAIT FOR AN INVITATION.

The Ross Fire in North Texas has exploded across more than 90,000 acres, with crews still fighting the blaze and containment around 31%. The fire has spread rapidly through extremely dry vegetation and difficult conditions.

And while that fire is hundreds of miles from Florida, it’s a good reminder to take a look at what’s happening on your own property.

We’ve had plenty of lightning recently, and after an unusually dry winter, vegetation can become a serious source of fuel. Dense palmettos, dry brush, dead limbs, vines, overgrown fence lines and heavy undergrowth can all make a property harder to manage if conditions turn dry.

🌳 THE NEIGHBOR’S FAVORITE TREE. Every neighborhood has one. One neighbor loves it. The other neighbor is convinced it’s personally attacking their fence. But here’s the interesting part: Florida tree law isn’t quite as simple as “my side of the fence, my rules.” If a neighbor’s tree has branches extending onto your property, Florida law generally allows you to trim those encroaching branches back to the property line, at your own expense, as long as you don’t cross the property line or improperly damage the tree. But if the trunk itself sits on the property line, things can get considerably more complicated. And before anybody starts a chainsaw-powered neighborhood war, it’s worth figuring out exactly where the property line is and having the tree properly evaluated. Sometimes the answer is a simple trim. Sometimes it’s a shared tree. And sometimes the tree isn’t the problem at all. The fence is just in the wrong place.
