“Every face tells a story. My role as an artist is to listen.” – Allen Polt

Known for his cinematic presence and timeless grace, Robert Redford is captured here through Allen’s masterful oil technique, blending realism and emotion in perfect harmony.

The painting is part of Allen’s Portraits of Legends series, which celebrates iconic figures who embody spirit, character, and authenticity.

The warmth of the tones and texture of the brushwork invites the viewer to look beyond fame and into humanity.

Silver Dollar Ante 🪙

Around a worn wooden table beneath the warm glow of a lantern, Allen Polt captures a familiar Western ritual, the quiet tension of a card game. The painting draws the viewer into a moment of camaraderie, rivalry, and unspoken codes between cowboys after long days on the trail.

The silver dollar ante was once a mark of both pride and risk. In the late 1800s, a single silver dollar represented a full day’s wages for many in the American West. To toss one into the pot wasn’t simply about gambling; it was about respect, reputation, and a test of nerve.

Allen’s brushwork brings these stories to life, where every face tells a tale and every shadow hints at consequence. The glow of the lamp above reminds us that even in the roughest corners of the frontier, there was art in how men played the game.

Quanah Parker (circa 1845 – 1911) was the son of a Comanche chief and Cynthia Ann Parker, a white settler captured as a child and raised among the Comanche. A brilliant leader, Quanah guided his people through one of the most challenging transitions in Native American history — from free life on the plains to reservation existence.

Allen’s portrait reflects the balance between tradition and transformation — dignity, pride, and resilience painted into every line and color.

“There’s a quiet strength in his eyes — a story of endurance, identity, and peace.” – Allen Polt

Known as “Little Sure Shot,” Annie Oakley (1860 – 1926) rose from humble beginnings to become one of the most skilled sharpshooters in history. Performing with Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show, she amazed audiences worldwide with her marksmanship and confidence, qualities rare for women of her time.

Allen’s portrait of Annie captures more than precision and grace; it reflects courage, independence, and quiet strength, the essence of the American West.

“She carried herself with dignity and purpose, a true symbol of perseverance.” – Allen Polt

A Humbling Honor 🏜️

Allen Polt is deeply honored to have been named the 2025 Honorary Artist Member of the Mountain Oyster Club, one of Arizona’s most respected art institutions.

For decades, Allen’s paintings have celebrated the spirit of the Southwest, from portraits of Western icons and tribal leaders to everyday scenes rich in color and emotion. His journey began in New York, found its heart in Taos, and continues today in Oro Valley, where he still paints with the same passion that first inspired him as a child.

To have his work exhibited among such esteemed artists and to be recognized by the Mountain Oyster Club is a true privilege.

“I’ve spent my life painting the people and places that define the West. This honor is not only humbling — it’s deeply meaningful.” – Allen Polt

Stay tuned as we share the paintings that will be on display for the Mountain Oyster Club Art Show, along with the stories of the legendary figures who inspired them.
