🌱 Life Around Jerry's Garden 🌱

One of the things I love most about spending time in Jerry's garden is that it's never just about the vegetables.

This week brought a special visitor—a tiny baby rabbit that somehow squeezed through the fence and found a safe hiding spot beneath one of the raspberry bushes. Nearby, its mother was keeping watch, reminding us that our gardens are part of a much larger ecosystem.

The raspberries are growing, the vegetables are thriving, pollinators are busy at work, and wildlife continues to find its place among the plants.

While taking a walk through the neighborhood, I stumbled across another delightful surprise: a Little Free Library. Tucked along a quiet street, it was filled with books waiting to be shared. It felt like a perfect reflection of what makes neighborhoods special—people creating small acts of generosity and connection.

Whether it's sharing vegetables, sharing space with wildlife, or sharing books with neighbors, these simple moments help create stronger, healthier communities.

Life near Lake Erie has a way of revealing these treasures when you slow down enough to notice them.

🌙 Back from an incredible weekend at To The Moon Burn in Tennessee!

It is held at the magical Catoosa Event Center, and what a stunning location. It has a beautiful lake, a waterfall, and even potable water flowing from a natural spring directly out of the rock. It felt like stepping into another world.

A huge thank you to our camp family, San Escobar, for creating such a welcoming and vibrant community. From Silverman's beautiful artwork, to Uno keeping us dancing, to the legendary picklebacks that seemed to appear at just the right moment—every detail added to the experience.

What I love most about events like this is the reminder of what can happen when people come together to create, share, and support one another. Art, music, nature, community, and a little bit of magic all woven together.

I came home inspired, recharged, and full of ideas for both my art and edible garden projects. ✨

This week I completed a free Collage Paper Making course with Rains, and I had so much fun exploring new techniques and possibilities.

One of the things I love about being an artist is that there is always something new to learn. This course encouraged me to experiment with creating my own collage papers using layers of color, texture, mark-making, and unexpected combinations.
One of my favorite parts of the course was discovering all the unconventional tools that can be used for mark-making. We experimented with a variety of everyday objects to create patterns, textures, and visual interest. It's amazing how ordinary items can leave such beautiful and unexpected marks on paper. I've included a photo of some of the tools we used because they were far from traditional art supplies!
These photos show some of my process and the papers I created during the course.
As a final exercise, Catherine had us create collage grids using the papers we made throughout the course. It was fascinating to see how the individual papers worked together once they were cut, arranged, and composed into finished pieces. The grids became a wonderful way to explore color, contrast, texture, and balance while giving new life to the papers we'd created.
A huge thank you to Catherine Rains for generously sharing her knowledge and creativity. I highly recommend her course to anyone interested in collage, mixed media, or expanding their artistic toolbox.
Whether in the garden or the studio, I love watching simple materials transform into something unexpected and beautiful.
Have you ever used an unusual object to create art? I'd love to hear what you've experimented with.

Sometimes inspiration comes from gardens… and sometimes from Detroit techno, rain, underground dance culture and unexpected conversations with strangers.

This Midwest summer is becoming a different kind of creative garden. 🌧️💃🎶

Highlights:
• Belleville Three at Diamondback Music Hall Music Hall
• Midnight Temple dinner with Dylan Temple
• Dancing until 5am at an afterparty in a church 😄
• Movement Festival in the rain Movement Electronic Music Festival
• Spotting fashion that reminded me of my own geometric artwork
• Ending up dancing in a younger woman’s video after asking if she was cold 😂

Art → movement → music → community → inspiration

I’m learning creativity doesn’t only happen in the studio or garden.

Sometimes you have to leave home and say yes.

Toledo garden update 🌱

Over the last few days we’ve been creating a little edible garden here in Toledo. Before planting, we gave the garden a good foundation with compost and aged horse manure — thank you Kathy and Ed for helping feed the soil first 💚 Healthy soil, healthy plants. We added tomatoes, herbs, greens, companion plants, flowers for pollinators….. Swipe through to see what went in (plant markers included for fellow garden people 😂).

I’m always curious what survives winter in a new place, so I was happy to find the sage, lemon balm, chives, raspberries, strawberries and oregano we planted last year all returning strongly. There’s something hopeful about perennial plants quietly waiting underground and coming back when conditions are right.
We also planted Beauregard sweet potatoes 🍠 and next step: canna lilies for summer colour and tropical energy 🌺

And here’s the real experiment… many of the seed packets were old. Normally, before planting older seeds, you’d do a germination test — placing a small sample of seeds between damp paper towels (or similar), keeping them warm for several days, then checking what percentage sprout. That helps estimate viability before using garden space. We skipped the testing and went straight to planting 😄 So now we wait and see what still has the will to grow. Sometimes gardening is science… and sometimes it’s optimism.

Bonus: We ended up with far too many tomato seedlings 🍅
If you live in Toledo or nearby Michigan and would like some, send me a message. Free to good homes that promise sunshine, water and occasional encouragement.

Tomorrow we begin the long drive from Florida to Toledo for our summer Midwest adventures 🌿🔥✨

It’s always bittersweet leaving behind my little Palm Coast food forest — the papayas, bananas, herbs, flowers, seedlings, compost piles, swimming pool reflections, visiting birds, and all the daily garden rituals that have become part of my rhythm and soul.

But I’m also feeling excited for what’s ahead:
💃 ecstatic dance with Elemental Ecstatic Dance in Ann Arbor
🎶 Movement Festival in Detroit
🌕 To The Moon burn in Tennessee
🔥 Lakes of Fire in Michigan
✨ Mosaic in Ohio
🌲 and a journey to Michigan’s beautiful Upper Peninsula

Summer for me is always about movement, creativity, community, music, art, nature, and transformation. Different landscapes… same intention.

I’ll still be sharing art, edible gardening, permaculture inspiration, burner adventures, and moments along the way — just from different soils for a while 🌱

Here are a few glimpses of the garden I’m temporarily leaving behind before the next chapter begins.

I’ve quietly been creating something a little special here in Palm Coast…

A home that blends edible gardening, art, and a slower, more intentional way of living 🌿

This summer, I’ll be opening my space as an Airbnb while I head to the Midwest— and I’d love to share it with people who appreciate nature, creativity, and a bit of magic in everyday life.

There are herbs to pick, fruit when in season, birds to feed by the window, and art woven throughout the home.

If you (or someone you know) might enjoy a stay like this, please share by Airbnb listing.

Alongside the garden, my art practice continues to grow too 🌿

I’m excited to have a series of work included in an upcoming gallery show at the Hull on Canal Street in New Smyrna Beach, opening May 2.

My pieces are inspired by nature, movement, and the same sense of flow and seasonal rhythm that shows up in the garden. The series is called Thresholds of Becoming and explores the movement from containment to release through layered collage. Floral forms are first contained in a vase, then they break free and finally reassemble around the light.

Here’s the flyer for the show and one of my works in the show 🎨

Welcome 🌿

I create edible gardens, permaculture designs, and art inspired by nature.

I’m drawn to gardens that are both beautiful and abundant—spaces you can walk through, harvest from, and experience as part of everyday life.

Alongside this, I create art influenced by movement, flow, and natural cycles.

If something here resonates, feel free to reach out or follow along 🌱
