Man, it has been a minute since I have posted on this page. To be honest I never really posted much before either. The Model Base is currently in flux as we are moving. Where you ask? That's a good question to which I don't have an answer. So until further notice, I am not accepting any commissions.

As soon as a suitable location has been identified, I will be back with updates and commission work will resume.

Thank you everyone for your support!

Got a new toy at the base a few weeks ago. I have been wanting to replace my respirator for some time now with one of the newer, smaller variants that I have seen airbrush artist using. A few weeks ago I came across RZ Mask and had to pull the trigger.
I picked up their M1 neoprene mask along with some upgraded filters and replacement valves. I have finally gotten around to using the mask a few times and I love it. I use it for everything now, not just painting. I recently used it while crawling under my 70+ year old home to do some plumbing work. The mask worked beautifully, protecting me from the dust, debris, and God knows what else was lurking under there.
The mask is very comfortable to wear, unlike traditional canister type respirators. I also like the easy to replace filter system. Not only are they easier to replace, but they are also considerably less expensive.
I chose the "Spitfire" pattern myself because it looks like the shark mouth nose art of vintage military aircraft. They have quite an extensive collection of styles to choose from including solid colors. They also have different models too if neoprene is not your cup'o tea.
I am not getting paid by RZ Mask or even got any free product from them. This is just an honest opinion from a modeler and DIY home repairman. If you are looking for or have ever considered a respirator, you owe it to yourself to check out RZ Masks.
If you haven't ever thought about a respirator and you are a modeler, then you should. Even waterbased paints are harmful when aerosolized and all that sanding you are doing is filling the air you breathe with tiny bits of styrene or resin. NOT GOOD.
Right now RZ Mask is running a clearance sale on most of their masks so now is a great time to buy. Save 50% or more depending on the style. I am headed back to pick up a couple more for myself.

It has been a busy summer for me here at "The Base." Sorry I have not posted much but I am trying to get better at keeping you up to date. Here are just some of the things I have had going on over the summer.

I went to Monsterpaloosa for the first time this year. An absolutely amazing show with tons of talent being presented. So much cool stuff, so little cash or room to keep it. I put a bunch of photos in an album if you want to take a look.

While I was there in California, I got a chance to take a tour of ADI thanks to my good friend and mentor Jim Lawrence. I even got to meet the guys behind ADI, Tom Woodruff, Jr and Alec Gillis. Super nice and very accommodating even though they were in the middle of another major project. While we could not go behind the scenes because of the project they were working on, I did get to look around their shop showroom. Absolutely incredible work.

Next, I caught up with Steve Wang and his talented crew at his workshop. Steve gave us the tour personally which made it all the better. Another really super nice guy that is very open with his time. They had some larger than life statues that looked so real I was intimidated to approach. Even and inches away you could not tell that they were silicone and paint. Absolutely amazing work. Thank you again, Jim, for arranging this and a Huge Thank You to Steve and his crew for taking the time to chat with us.

In June made my annual pilgrimage to Wonderfest in Louisville, KY. If you are into sci-fi or figure modeling then this is the show for you. No photos of this trip, sorry. I just did not have the time to step away from my booth. It was great catching up with all my model friends and customers again. See you guys later this year.

Another first this year was Boy Scout Summer Camp. Both of my sons are Scouts as was I when I was their age. While I have been to BSA summer camp as a kid, this was the first time as an adult leader. We had a great time and are looking forward to it again this year.

Finally, I went to Jerseyfest in early September. Yet another first for me. This was a smaller show but they are growing. I had a great time but once again no photos because I did not have time to leave the booth. Made some new friends and had a great time in general. I will definitely be adding this show to my schedule this year. Jerseyfest caters to more figure and horror modelers but there is a little bit of everything there. It is definitely worth a look.

Well, that wraps my summer. How was yours?

Photos of items in ADI display room. Earlier this year I got the chance to tour the incredible ADI studio with my pal Jim Lawrence. Thank you so much Jim for making this dream a reality.

Various pictures I took at the show. Mostly stuff in the dealer room but a few items from the Artist's Alley.

Okay, so it has been a while but finally, I can reveal the "mystery" base project I started some time ago. The build was very creative and superbly executed by my buddy Ron Sherwood for Amazing Figure Modeler magazine.
Enough with the yapping! On to the photos!

"Hey Scoob check out what The Model Base is working on now!"
" Ru ro Raggy. Ret's get outta here!"

Another top secret project in the works here at the base. I will probably get away with it too in spite of those snooping kids!

Been busy at The Base. Working on a top secret project for a client. Can't let you in on the details but lets just say that this one is going to be "Bat-tastic". I mean really. It will make you do the Bat-Toosie and yell "Holy Custom Model Base!"

Gee, I hope I didn't let the bat out of the bag.

Looking for someone to build that one of a kind kit or just the one that you always wanted but did not feel up to the challenge? Then I would love to speak to you about your project.

I have been building award winning models for years. Most folks know me for my sci-fi builds and custom bases but that is just one small area of my talents. I build aircraft, armor, cars/trucks, Gundam, Macross and various scale figure kits. You name it, I have built it. Take a look at my photo library for examples of my work.

I go about the process of building on commission much differently than many other builders for hire. It is YOUR model and I feel that YOU should have as much input on the process as possible. To achieve this, I work in stages and keep you up to date with regular communications including photos and/or video of the progress.

For a quote on your next project, message me here on Facebook or drop me an email at [email protected]
