Celebrating my father, Amadeus “Star” Gioeli Zen Archery — a dedicated professional archer whose passion for the sport continues through his instruction and mentorship.

Star shares some of his knowledge and discipline through lessons at Pasadena Roving Archers (PRA), a remarkable organization preserving the tradition and craft of field archery.

Established in 1935, PRA is recognized as the oldest continuously operated field archery range in the world, located in Pasadena’s beautiful Lower Arroyo Park and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

PRA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit committed to educating and supporting archers of all levels — from first-time participants to seasoned competitors. The range is open to the public from sunrise to sunset, archery community.

Watching my father continue to share his skill, patience, and respect for this historic sport is something I deeply admire.

He offers private lessons at the Arroyo Seco Park, corporate team building, private parties. You name the place he’s there!

There’s something that happens when you get the opportunity to design within walls that hold extraordinary craftsmanship—true historic architecture. It changes you. Honestly, it makes working on other projects a challenge afterward.

I used to stand inches from the cast block walls and original woodwork, just staring in disbelief. My client trusted me completely—she let me move through her home as if it were my own. There was nothing off-limits. She leaned on me for light restoration and key design moments: the master bedroom and bath, the staircase, draperies, shades, upholstery, faux repairs—every detail mattered.

How we met is a story all on its own, maybe for another post.

What I can say is this: the drapery story alone still makes me laugh. While she was in France, the drapes were installed… then promptly taken down by a movie crew. A very rowdy commercial—apparently with T-Bow flying through the house. I almost died when I saw what they did to them before she returned.

I re-steamed every panel and absolutely charged the set manager.

When she finally came home, she met me in the master bedroom. Her reaction—there’s no other way to say it—was like watching a princess receive something truly special. It was real. I felt it in my bones.

That moment was everything dreams are made of.

She gave me my goal and allowed me to fulfill my vision. And because of that, I’m able to go back out and help others climb—just as so many played a role in mine.

This is my autograph image directly out of the hand of an LA Icon—Rest In Peace buddy. My time canvasing the streets in DTLA then are 2007ish are enormously different now.

One Stadium. One Day. A real reset.

LA has spent billions, yet the crisis on our streets keeps growing. If we can move tens of thousands through SoFi, Dodger Stadium, or Crypto.com Arena in a single day—parking, security, food, sanitation, crowd control—then we can coordinate a one-day, citywide effort to give 80,000 unhoused Angelenos real help all at once.

Imagine this:
Buses roll out. Encampments are cleared with purpose—not punishment. Everyone is brought to one organized location for showers, meals, restrooms, medical care, mental-health support, and basic dignity. From there, people are sorted by what they actually need: short-term aid, transitional housing, addiction recovery, psychiatric care, long-term support, or simply a fresh start.

While they’re safely off the streets, cleanup crews restore our public spaces.
This isn’t fantasy—it’s logistics. And it’s more practical than the endless committees, delays, and excuses that have burned through billions with nothing to show for it.

It’s time for a reset on the city streets. In that is homelessness results.

For the long version—-head to my X pg! Oh—and make sure you answer the phone call when it rings….

*As of today, the current homeless count 43,699 just cleaning up files on my desk today. I have something else to say, beat you just can’t wait for this one.

Flabbergasted

Last night after coming off a project, my father and I went out to dinner locally and out to Altadena. I was able to invite my father to one of my projects in Altadena (he brought me a tool)— most of you have no idea what this recovery process is like at all. I was not directly affected but everyone around me is!

My father was completely in awe of this property and just so complimentary about every nook and cranny. He needed a piece of his spirit lifted.

Back to dinner—holy s**t I was beside myself at what the owner had to say about a majority of the fire victims properties.

No friggen way dude— desensitized at its best. Definitely would have kept that to myself. THE END

The brand GIOELI is defined by three core pillars that embody my creative vision and refined aesthetic: GIOELI Lifestyle, where interiors are edited, reorganized, and redesigned with purpose; GIOELI Paint & Decorating, where artistry meets surface in color though paint and texture; and the GIOELI Designer Rug Collection, where each piece anchors a space like art underfoot. Together, they express a holistic approach to design—thoughtful, elevated, and unmistakably GIOELI.

What was the hardest project you ever did? This was mine.

I could write a book about this timeline —and I will—it will be sometime in the near future.

Exchange St. 2nd Fl Studio (I had 2) 2013 preparing for the Design Show House on the Knox Summer Estate, Hosted by the Junior League. That was interesting.

It doesn’t matter what you like — it matters what my client likes.

You don’t hire a designer to “just do their thing.” It’s a collective responsibility and a practice.
But you also don’t hire one to push around — otherwise, do it yourself. That’s the Joan Rivers in me talking. She’d say the same thing… probably more abrupt.

Harsh? Not really. Quite the opposite.

Now, about this artwork — a collaboration between my client and his business partner. Bob drew the female figure in pen and ink with all those beautiful hatch marks, and his partner layered the scan with bold, colorful shapes digitally printed on canvas.

The real story? My client had been holding onto incredible pieces he never got to use. I was handed a boatload of them and told to make it all work. With one condition: no classic Southwestern installation. I wanted something different — a lead piece that made a statement.

He pulled out his phone, showed me this, and I said, “Where the bleep did you get that?”
“It’s my work,” he said.
And the rest is history.

We named it simply HER.

HER signifies something within me — it’s meant to.

All that to say… I’m about to really wind up as I formally stop operating as Studio 33 Design Concepts go.

Like everything in my world, there’s usually a funny story behind my projects — and this one in Prescott, AZ was no exception. It came with its fair share of challenges (not that my client knew all of them while reading this post 😅), but in the end, our little flip definitely flipped a few people out!

Three offers and sold in just two days — not bad at all. I’m not sure about the exact math, but let’s just say it was fruitful. I’m sure the buyers had to look really hard to find any flaws… other than the fact that we didn’t replace the front door. Darn it!

Guess I’ll have to send them a postcard. 😉
