Looks like we have more snow on the way, along with wind chills in some areas down to -20 degrees in the next few days. These are dangerous temperatures. Please, please remember to keep your vents, (furnace, boiler, dryer, fresh air intake, etc), and gas meter clear of snow. Carbon Monoxide is serious! It canโt be seen, smelled, or tasted. It is deadly. Make sure your CO detectors have fresh batteries in them and are NOT expired (look at the date on the back). If they go off, do not just unplug or disconnect them. I see it happen again and again. If it is low on batteries it will chirp, if the alarm goes off then you most likely have a serious issue going on. Call 911 and get out of the house. If youโre not able to immediately evacuate the house due to weather, then open all windows, turn on bathroom fans, cooking ventilation hoods, and move to fresh air as soon as it is safe to do so. I say that because going outside in negative temperatures is equally as dangerous. Even if youโre not sure you have an issue, still call someone and let the professionals determine if it is safe in the home. If you smell gas, call 911 and/or national grids emergency number at 1-800-233-5325. Check on you neighbors, especially the elderly or those with small children. Be Safe everyone!us gen
