The front facade makeover started in September of 2022 when Heath Finley started demolition. He worked on the house for around 2.5 years after that. we appreciate all you did for us Heath!

We found an envelope in a wall before Heath started working for us. It was a letter from Heath’s grandfather to his grandmother, who was living here when Lowther was Bostic Arms Apartment. His grandfather was at an undisclosed location in the South Pacific fighting in World War Two.

2014 and this morning. It wasn’t that the house was ugly before, we just wanted to get back, as closely as possible, to its original form.

A big door has got to have a big key and key escutcheon. We need to find a smaller, brass door k**b, like the one pictured, to look more authentic. The brass k**b shown here is not compatible with this door lock.

Now our friends at Brews on The Square can drink coffee and beer while looking at the finished doors. We had probably a dozen inquiries from Brews patrons about what happened to the doors/why was the front door boarded up. Some people walked across when we were in the front yard, some who knew us asked us via phone and texts. I think we will walk over for a drink!

There were dozens of patches here when we bought Lowther Hall. Some are wood plugs, others are bottoms of tin cans, the top of a Nabisco tin, corn cobs stuck in knot holes and cut flush where knots had fallen out, cut out pieces of tin. And even a 12x14,1965 cotton pricing card. We leave them if the hole doesn’t need further repair

When repairing furniture or a door I will make an effort to match the grain and color of a patch. When working on wall boards or in this case, the drop bar, I like to make it obvious that there is a patch - or two. These patches are hiding blown out nail holes.

In the event that someone does not know what a drop bar is, the red line represents the drop bar and it would slide into the two brackets on the door frame.
