There is something particular about a roof deck surrounded by plants and the sense of being in a private garden that softens the city beyond.

For this project Urban Jungle designed, fabricated and installed parapet planters that create a continuous living edge around the deck without taking up valuable floor space. Integrated LED lights provide a warm glow in the evening around the perimeter and controlled drainage directs water to a discreet discharge point. Evergreen boxwood provides structure and privacy throughout the year and colorful herbaceous flowering plants change with the season. Custom railing planters extend the plant palette and maintain views from the roof.

We designed this balcony to be an extension of the home, an outdoor space visible from the main gathering rooms, the kitchen, the dining area and the living room. Custom fabricated Urban Jungle planters define the space, each with an integrated LED strip light to create a warm evening glow. Beneath each planter, a concealed stainless steel drain pan collects and directs water to a discreet discharge point, protecting the deck while keeping the infrastructure invisible. The seasonal plant palette echos the colors and textures throughout the interior, allowing the landscape to become part of the home’s overall design language. Tall perimeter planters frame the balcony and provide privacy, a sense of enclosure, and a flowering backdrop for grilling and gathering.

Second story pool deck summer vibes alert. Vibrant colors, long runs of LED lights, and shade structures make this deck a whole lot of fun the warm months. The Americana was a significant project for us. We started a working relationship with and brought this project to life as we assisted Urban Intent with the design process. We provided materials—soup to nuts—for this project. Street trees, porcelain pavers on pedestals, glass guardrails with LED lights, planters fabricated by Urban Jungle, a motorized pergola, shrubs, and herbaceous flowering plants.

Even in the depths of winter, we’re reflecting on the landscapes we shaped in the warmer months. Custom Urban Jungle Trellis Planters with a woody vine, window boxes and railing planters with jewel tone flowers, and building entrances transformed into green portals. Spring is already on our mind.

This is what happens when architecture, landscape and craft come together. At One Frankford, we created a public space using corten steel panels on a sloped site using curved edges to navigate the level changes. This is the kind of garden that encourages one to linger and enjoy the flowering trees, compact shrubs, perennials, and the winter hardy colors of the cold tolerant plants.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year and we are doing our part to make our clients’ homes festive and bright. Evergreens, twigs, berries, and pods add the right amount of seasonal beauty to any building. Truly, a little green adds a lot of magic to the neighborhood. Go ahead, share the joy!
