Take home a tincture!!

Find Serenity and Good Health in the Garden

In recognition of Women’s Health Month, the Griffin Center for Healthy Living Teaching Kitchen will host a free cooking demonstration about the nutritional and stress-relieving benefits of common garden herbs.

Garden Calm & Herbal Stress Relief will be Thurs., May 21 at 5 p.m. at The Griffin Center for Healthy Living at Quarry Walk, 300 Oxford Road, Oxford.

Former Executive Director of Massaro Farm and sustainable nutrition expert Caty Poole will discuss spring herbs and how they can be combined into teas and tinctures that can lower blood pressure, detox the liver, help control blood sugar, and contribute to overall stress relief and a person’s level of calm. Poole will demonstrate how to make a simple tea blend, and all participants will receive an herbal tincture that can help relieve stress and promote calm.

Space is limited for this event, so registration is required. Visit www.griffinhealth.org/garden-calm or call The Griffin Center for Healthy Living Coordinator at 203-732-1369 to sign up.

TAKE HOME A TINCTURE! Spring is a great time to focus on herbal health: herbs are often the first harvest we can make from our garden while waiting for the bounty of summer.

Plus, our systems can use a reboot after the stagnation of winter. Liver, lymph nodes and immune systems benefit from a boost of the essential oils and polyphenols we can glean from herbs like oregano, nettle, lemon balm and more!

This class is FREE at Griffin's Center for Healthy Living. Join us and take home a bottle of fresh tincture while learning how to make your own version of this homeopathic medicine.

There's still time to join is this week at Massaro Farm to identify and remove woody in asive species, esp those that threaten our tree canopies.

Trees sequester carbon, clean the air, help control storm runoff and lower the overall temperature.

Join us in this spring workshop at Massaro Community Farm! FREE. Tools provided.

Like many of you, I've been doing some spring cleaning and reorganizing. It was on my list to go through a big old jumble of a jewelry box.

I'd painted these small picture frames and replaced the glass with screen & chicken wire. I was originally going to give them away but realized they were the perfect solution to my jewelry mess AND I had a great spot in our walk-in closet to hang them.

Love the results. What do you think?!

This was the first year I really experienced winter taking a harsh toll on my menopausal skin. I was seeing flaking in areas that just couldn't be resolved thru plain moisturizing!

I realized I had some great ingredients in my pantry that were both humectant (drawing in moisture) and emolient (softening by sealing in).

Try one of these combos for an easy 10 minute facial:

- a tsp of raw honey blended with matcha powder. Matcha reduces inflammation, helps fight acne and promotes a glowing complexion.

- a tbsp of jojoba oil blended with ground oatmeal. Oatmeal is a great gentle exfoliant and also reduces inflammation and reduces signs of aging like fine lines and dark circles.

For this week's Eating Down the Pantry challenge I wanted to use a package of beef franks from the freezer. I also had dried navy beans in the pantry.

Voila! Homemade beans and franks in the instant pot thanks to the great recipes from @ tastesbetterfromscratch.

Substitutions:

Navy beans instead of red beans
Maple syrup instead of molasses
All ketchup instead of bbq sauce
Left out peppers

Served with salad. Came out amazing! My hubbie says no more beans out of a can. The beans were from our winter grain share
