Miniature mixed-use coming soon to E. Girard Ave. This 3-story project was approved today by the Philadelphia ZBA. A small commercial shop + 3 residential units will soon fill in a gap on the 300 block of E. Girard Ave. This design of this building references its immediate 4-story neighbor to the right built in 2019, and gently steps down in height to meet its much older neighbor on the left. We love getting to design buildings like this that fill in a “missing tooth” lot on a busy commercial corridor; this one makes the most of its narrow site while still adding depth and variety to the streetscape.

Our Arrowhead A-Frame project in the Poconos received a 2024 Honor Award from AIA Philadelphia.

The Arrowhead A-Frame takes some of its design cues from Philadelphia’s rowhome typology: an efficient circulation stack located along the side opens the floor plan and pierces the roof plane, creating an upper-level outdoor terrace above. Sleeping areas, baths, and an eat-in kitchen are tucked into a tight programmatic core that allows for maximum height and views for the living area facing the double-height lakeside window wall. A 2nd floor ship ladder that mimics the pitch of the roof plane leads to a bonus balcony room at the upper loft level.

Sited on an irregular lot, this skewed and angled A-Frame is not as simple as it looks, with lots of strange intersections and odd geometries to resolve. This was a fun and challenging project for our firm to design, and we were lucky to have a great client and construction team to put it all together flawlessly. Nice work!

Thank you to the awards jury and for the recognition. 📸 by

Rodgers Row townhouses coming soon to E. Thompson St in Fishtown. The front of these 4 Fishtown townhouses uses a diagonal zig-zag design move to increase the effective facade area, allowing for extra daylighting opportunities and for capturing direct sun at different times of the day. The angled space in the front of the homes is a triple-height atrium/ stairwell, and allows daylight to pe*****te deep into the core of these long + narrow townhouses. Each house prioritizes pedestrian safety at sidewalk, with a solar canopy carport in the rear of the property. Construction will be starting soon…

4-story multifamily building with 48 one-bedroom residential units coming soon to Wayne Ave in Germantown. This project takes advantage of a mixed-income zoning bonus for added density, and features a green roof for stormwater management on the entire upper roof level. The building features an asymmetrical double-loaded corridor layout with deep courtyards on one side and a side setback on the other side, ensuring that all units get ample access to light and air. Check out construction progress on Wayne Ave in ‘24 to watch this one take shape.

🧱 74 residential units coming soon to the Wissinoming neighborhood of Northeast Philadelphia. Today we presented our project to the Civic Design Review committee and our project was approved / concluded with some minor landscaping adjustments that we will incorporate into the final design. This 4-story building features a mix of studio, 1-bed, and 2-bed units. We squeezed 41 parking spaces towards the rear of the building, but as always, our design prioritizes pedestrian safety and walkability. Landscaping and seating areas in front will complement the angular facade’s projections and balconies. This project will break ground in 2024 and the location represents a new neighborhood for a KJO Architecture-designed building. 🧱

Arrowhead A-Frame in Pocono Lake, PA is complete and looking sharp 📐. The design for this cool vacation home features a marriage of a traditional A-Frame and a Philadelphia townhouse: a steeply-pitched roof system punctured by a vertical circulation stack topped with an outdoor roof terrace. Despite a bunch of screwy angles and unusual geometry due to the lot dimensions, this one came together seamlessly thanks to the team at : nice work! Photos by
