A little introduction for those of you who are new here! 👋 I'm Susan Rains, the interior designer behind Susan Rains Design.

My work ranges from room makeovers and whole-home transformations to collaborating with kitchen and bath professionals and remodelers on the materials, finishes, fixtures, and lighting that make a space feel complete.

My love of art, antiques, and craftsmanship began early in life. Over time, that appreciation evolved into a design philosophy centered on something deeper: the connection between our homes and our well-being.

I believe our surroundings can support the lives we want to live, and that thoughtful design should reflect who we are, what we value, and how we want to feel in our homes.

Whether you're planning a renovation, furnishing a new home, or need guidance on a few key design decisions, I'd love to learn more about your project.

Ready to explore what's possible for your home? I'd love to hear about your home, your goals, and how I might help. Let's start with a conversation! Schedule a complimentary discovery call through this link. https://susanrainsdesigncalendar.as.me/discoveryconsult

I'm glad you're here!

I don't have a signature style. I have a signature approach.

Every client is different. Their personalities, priorities, lifestyles, and the way they want to feel in their homes are uniquely their own. That's why my design process doesn't begin with a particular aesthetic. It begins with getting to know the people who will live in the space.

My role is to help clients discover and clarify their vision, then thoughtfully guide them toward a home that reflects who they are and supports how they want to live.
Because beautiful design isn't just about how a home looks. It's about how it makes you feel and how it supports your life.

Interiors for the Best of Your Life.

A morning surrounded by beautiful materials is always inspiring, but I’m most drawn to the details that reveal themselves slowly. Craftsmanship. Texture. History. A hidden symbol or story you might not notice at first.

A few favorites from a recent interior design tabletop show at the Merion Cricket Club, featuring Samuel & Sons, Patterson Flynn, and Bramalta.

I love finding details that don’t just add beauty, but bring something personal and meaningful to a home.

Your home doesn’t need pumpkins everywhere to feel like fall.

As the season changes, it’s also about changing how a home feels, not filling it with seasonal décor.

Warmer colors. Layered textures. Natural materials. A beautiful branch in a favorite vase. Fewer objects, chosen with intention.

These small shifts can make a home feel more cozy, grounded, and inviting without changing its personality.

Because good seasonal design isn’t necessarily about decorating for the season. It’s about creating a home that supports the way you want to live in it.

September feels like a reset.

We settle back into routines, spend more time at home, and often start noticing spaces that could work better for how we actually live.

I currently have several projects underway and a few nearing completion, which means I have room to start conversations about what comes next.

If there's a room you've been wanting to finish, a space that no longer works for you, or a larger project you've been putting off, now is a great time to start planning.

I'm currently welcoming new residential design projects in the Philadelphia and Main Line area. You can schedule a complimentary Design Discovery Call through this link https://susanrainsdesigncalendar.as.me/discoveryconsult

A little behind-the-scenes from installation day.

The finished photos are always fun to share, but a lot happens before we get there.

This project is still coming together, but seeing the rug go down and the furniture being assembled is when all those plans and selections finally start to feel real.

A few more layers remain before these spaces are complete. I can't wait to share this project with you.

Before it becomes a room…
For this 1920s home, the goal is to create a new kitchen that feels like it has always been there and works beautifully for a busy, modern family.

We're bringing brick from the exterior inside for the range hood and layering it with warm woods, timeless finishes, and hardworking materials chosen for a family that loves to cook and spend time together.

Good design isn't just about how a room looks. It's about honoring the home, understanding the people who live there, and making thoughtful decisions that bring the two together.

I think we ask the wrong question when we're designing our homes.

We often start with: What do I want this room to look like?

But I think there's a more important question:

Once we understand how we want a space to support our lives, the decisions about color, layout, lighting, furniture, and materials have a much deeper purpose.

Do you want your bedroom to help you slow down and rest? Your kitchen to make healthy routines easier? Your dining room to encourage people to linger a little longer?

Once we understand how we want a space to support our lives, the decisions about color, layout, lighting, furniture and materials have a much deeper purpose.

A beautiful room matters. But I think the best interiors do more than look beautiful.

They support the life happening inside them.
