Abundant Homestead We are a small homestead. We believe in holistic living for ourselves and our animals.

Our property has been free of any type of non-organic pesticide or herbicide for 15+ years, which invites a wonderful array of nature and wildlife to our property.

We don't have much of a presence here on FB. I don't post too much because I'm too busy being present in real life with my family.

I will try to do my once a day so we look "relevant" to those who are interested in what's UFD, but I'm struggling with it and have for some time. I love to read and write, so I will put that hat on and suck it up (at least for a little while).😉

New chickies (Grammar police, I know it's not a word.) for the homestead. Australorp's have proven to be one of my favorites. They are good foragers, good layers, good at avoiding predators and good mommas. They are not too flighty and fairly docile and make a good dual breed. There are several more that I like. What are you favorites?

I absolutely adore our Muscovy ducks! I have had several different breeds of ducks over the years, and these have stolen my heart in the duck world. They are great mommas, smart, friendly, easy to train, resilient where predators are concerned...just an all-around great duck.

Comfrey: (my Russian Comfrey pictured)

This, my friends, is a powerhouse medicinally. The video below is an excellent explanation. It is a fantastic healing plant as well as good for wet coughs to break up mucus, and it can also soothe sore throats, stomach aches, etc.

Russian Comfrey can grow in a contained area and is a perennial in our area. Wild comfrey will take over. It can be very invasive.

Another use: Place several large leaves in a five gallon bucket covered with water, seal and leave for several days or more. Voila, you have your own homemade fertilizer.

White and yellow Honeysuckle....makes a fantastic tea or addition to other teas that need a little "sweet" balance. Harvest before blooms open early morning for next flavor. This plant has many other benefits as well...(pics are mine) Tip: Start honeysuckle plant in tomatoe cage. It will climb up the cage and create a centerpiece/interest in the garden.
