You have the concept. You have the menu. You know the kind of place you want people talking about.

But does the space tell the same story?

Sometimes a space does not need more. It just needs one moment to work a little harder.

This kitchen was already beautiful, but the end elevation was asking for more presence. (It was a narrow hood and cabinets above a narrow stove)

A few thoughtful tweaks gave the room a stronger focal point and a more intentional finish. (Got rid of the tiny stove, tiny hood, removed the uppers on either side, widened both stove and hood and added sconces)

Scroll through to see how a subtle change can shift the whole space.

Of course we love “beautiful”…but we never want it to feel too serious.

Take the gorgeous materials, the polished details, and then add in something a little unexpected that makes you smile. A quirky object. That little bit of whimsy is usually what makes a space feel memorable.

Sharing a few details from the Ravenshade House. Do you have a custom home or full renovation and you’re working on but are overwhelmed by decision making? Not sure how to pull it together cohesively? We got you. DM “CUSTOM” to find out how we work with homeowners to take away the decision fatigue and bring the “Wow”.

HGTV toured our Vale House and here’s what they had to say:

BUSINESS OF HOME ASKED US: “WHO IS YOUR IDEAL CLIENT?”

Is this you?

You are not looking to hand over every decision. You simply don’t have the time or expertise. You are looking for an expert who can listen well, think strategically, bring clarity to the process, and make the experience feel as considered as the final result.

You don’t want a copy of something you saw online…and are drawn to spaces that feel collected, globally inspired, wellness-focused, and unmistakably your own.

You know what you like, but are open to new ideas, andappreciate a strong point of view.

A good sense of humor also goes a very long way. Design is serious work, but that does not mean we can’t have fun.

Great projects come from trust, clear communication, curiosity, and a little chemistry. Sound like you? Comment “IDEAL CLIENT” and let’s talk.

Hi. I’m Liz, and I’m so glad you found us.

After years of working on high-end hospitality projects around the world, I started Batten Court Design for you!!

For people who want a home that feels personal, polished, and truly livable, and for the hospitality clients who want to create places people remember, return to, and talk about.

Our clients come to us when they have a vision, but need help pulling all the pieces together.

We bring clarity to the process, a strong point of view, years of global experience, and a deep understanding of how spaces should look, feel, and function.

The goal is always the same: to create something thoughtful, distinctive, and entirely unique.

Beautiful, yes. But also comfortable, memorable, and never boring.

Do you have a project coming up? Comment “YES” to learn more about working with us.

The most memorable spaces usually have a little something unexpected. A bold wallpaper, an unconventional lighting choice, a room that fully commits to color. To us, thoughtful design doesn’t mean predictable.

Ready to create a space with a little more personality? Let’s talk.

So you’re building a custom home and you want it to feel timeless?

Start with what has staying power: Natural materials. Thoughtful proportions. Beautiful craftsmanship. The foundation should feel considered enough to outlast whatever happens to be trending.

Timeless spaces are not anonymous. Art, collected pieces, meaningful objects, and unexpected details keep a room from feeling overly polished or predictable.

Choose quality over quantity. Fewer, better pieces almost always make a stronger statement. Invest in what you will still want to live with years from now, then give it room to breathe.

Have a project in mind? We’d love to hear about it. DM “TIMELESS” to hear more about how we help you not only create timeless spaces, but also how we help you save your sanity during the process:)
