Cedric's Hungry Plants

Cedric's Hungry Plants Growing Carnivorous Plants is a fascinating hobby. This site shows the projects I am currently working on and plants I am selling on the market.

My Roridula Gorgonias mother plant is flowering again. Hopefully I will get more seeds. The 72 seeds I planted have started germinating. The cutting still seems to be alive. Interesting note: this one is forming white flowers, as oppose to the bright pink color on the mother plant.

I finally pulled the trigger and divided my H. Flamingo — she was absolutely overflowing the pot, and Drosera adelae had moved in as an uninvited roommate! 😄

The mother plant is looking great post-division. The juvenile came off without roots, so she’s going into a humidity bag for now while she gets established.

I have a list of people who have already contact me interested in buying the H. Flamingo. If you contact me, I can add you to the waiting list.

I finally found the perfect spot for my N. campanulata — one of the tiniest Nepenthes out there! She's now living on a lower shelf in the greenhouse where she catches some nice dappled light filtered through my 70% Aluminet shade cloth.

Who else is growing this little gem? I'd love to hear your conditions and experience with it!

Here's how I'm currently keeping mine happy:
- Soil: 50/50 akadama/kanuma with a moss top dressing
- Temps: 80°F days / 68°F nights
- Humidity: 60–80%
- Light: Natural light through 70% Aluminet shade cloth
- Watering: Since it's in akadama/kanuma, I keep just a little RO water in the tray

Drop your growing conditions below — always curious how others are doing with this one! 👇

Wondering how long it takes for D. scorpioides gemmae to sprout after you receive them from me? No waiting required — here's proof! I just opened two fresh packs to start a new pot, and the little guys are already up and growing. If you prefer more breathing room, space them about 2" apart. These are planted at roughly 1" apart, so you can see how quickly it fills in! Use a good pair of tweezers to remove them from the paper towel. The roots can be imbedded. Then place them upright as in the photo.

Getting replacements for all the pings I lost in the past as well as a new one I thought looked cool. I also decided to get a Hummer’s Giant. I want to see how it compares to my Elizabeth and Charles Brewer pitchers. It looks a little anorexit. Needs some tlc. Definitely more light.

What happens when you let the star moss grow too long. This is in fluval stratum. The moss makes a very thick water repellent layer. The moss roots are deep competing for resources with the ping roots. I need to pull them out much sooner when I see them popping up as oppose to now.

Nothing to see yet. Just planted 72 roridula gorgonias seeds. I decided to do individual pots to keep their roots from tangling up.

Last Saturday’s carnivorous plant show at Bad Astronaut Brewing in Houston was a blast. The vendor lineup was fantastic, and the People’s Choice competition had some truly impressive plants. I snapped photos of my booth and the entries so everyone here can enjoy them too.

My Cephalotus brought home third place.
