I do have a confession to make. This is kind of like a cobbler buying himself a new pair of shoes. I picked this one up Saturday and it ate up most of my income from sharpening that day but it brings me joy. A Case Mini CopperLock. The few Case knives I have are mostly traditional folders with slip joint action. This one is a lock back which has an easier opening and closing action due to not having to go against the firm spine spring that Case is known for. The action on this one is perfect. Case is one of those companies that is not too open about their metallurgy in their blades but I have always found them very respectable even if they don't get much love by the mall ninja steel snobs in the knife internet. Blade geometry was fine, sharpness was fine. Case puts a good edge on at the factory but the two bevels rarely come out the same. This example came in at 20 degrees and the other side 25 degrees. This is not bad per say as there was a sharp apex I'm just a little more OCD about bevels. I took it to the lab and now this one sports 16 degrees both sides, polished to 5000 grit and scoring a 144 on the BESS scoring. Should put fear in Amazon packages just traveling BY my house. 2 years ago today we accepted money for sharpening a valued customer's knives for the first time. That started a great adventure that is still going strong and I have our community and all our customers to thank for that. I had just retired from a big corporate career and I knew my 40+ years of sharpening could be a success. Dad, the Sam in our name, I think would be proud of where we've taken it. Many pop up markets, house calls, SamSharp Goods selling our own line of sharpening accessories and created a mail order service that has served 17 states catering to the shaved ice and boat/auto upholstery industries. I have learned a lot about sharpening along the way, running a small business and what it means to be a community oriented business. HUGE shout out to my friends at G FIVE Feed & Outdoor . They define community business supporting community business and I am so appreciative of the platform they afford me any time I ask. Customer service has been pretty easy with a simple philosophy of treating people like I would like to be treated and if you're not happy with the service you don't pay, that's it, it works. Now, where do we go from here? We don't want to grow into some big company with multiple stores and franchises and all that but within our size we would love to reach more dull knives!
