Happy Mothers Day!
Celebrate the women in your life who made you who you are today. Who influenced your crafty art side?
I am lucky I had not only a mom but some stepmom‘s growing up. I also had some really awesome teachers.
My mom was very generous and would get me art kits. Of course we all had a spirograph which just was a spinner that threw paint all over.
I also used to make these bead dolls. They were a little Styrofoam forms and you would take a pin a sequence and a bead. They took forever. They had little Chanel pipe cleaner, arms. with fancy material. The dolls were from all different countries. They came with plastic heads that you stuck on.
I’m my teen years I got hooked on hook rugs, one summer visiting my stepmom. We were in North Florida and it was hot so we need something to do inside. I don’t think I finished that hook rug till I was in my early 30s. I would just move it from place to place.
In fifth grade, our teacher taught us how to knit. I made a bookmark. I still think I have the knitting needles somewhere.
My stepmom also taught me how to do cross stitch and needle point. I never could get crochet down. She did try though.
As I got older, I got into paint by numbers. Then I took a hiatus from my crafting. Except helping with projects for events like Emmaus.
For my 50th birthday, I decided to do a painting with the twist party here that reignited the artist in me. Six months later, my aunt found her first kindness rock and that’s how I got into the kindness, rock movement.
I believe the kindness rocks have taken over my crafting now. not to brag, but I feel like my painting ability has gotten a little better. For not having any formal art training I think I do OK.
When my nephews would visit we would color. I hope I planted the creative seed in them as well!
