Mastery isn't an accident; it’s the result of deep effort. Put in the hours to bridge the gap between "skilled" and "master. I’m Michael Butt, and I’m the proud founder of About Coatings, based right here in Southern Maine. My story begins long before starting the business — it’s about learning the ropes, getting my hands dirty, and putting in those 1,000 hours of real-world experience that everyo
ne talks about. It’s those hours that built the foundation of everything I do today. I grew up in an environment where hard work and craftsmanship were valued. From a young age, I was learning how to fix, build, and improve things around the house. Over time, I found my passion for home improvement and decided to pursue it professionally. There were plenty of early mornings, late nights, and challenging projects that made me push myself further, but all of that helped shape me into the skilled craftsman I am today. I spent years working alongside other experts in the field, learning not just the techniques but also how to communicate with clients, how to handle unexpected problems, and how to always push for the best result. Those 1,000 hours weren’t just about honing skills, but also about gaining confidence in what I could offer. It wasn’t just about learning how to paint a wall or install tile — it was about learning how to truly transform a space and create something that lasts. Now, with About Coatings, my goal is simple: to give people the same quality of work and attention to detail that I would want in my own home. Whether I’m working on a kitchen remodel, helping a homeowner update their cabinets, or installing beautiful new flooring, I approach every project with pride, passion, and a dedication to getting it right. Outside of work, you can usually find me with my camera in hand, capturing moments and exploring the world of photography. I’m always learning new techniques and looking for fresh perspectives — whether it’s photographing landscapes, people, or everyday scenes that tell a story. Thanks for taking the time to read a little about me. If you’re thinking about a project, I’d love to chat and see how I can help bring your vision to life.
