In honor of Economic Development Week, we’re proud to support the vision, innovation, and partnerships shaping Powhatan’s future! A huge part of this partnership is the Career and Workforce Development Program at Powhatan High School. 👷
This program allows students to learn “hands-on” job skills in a variety of career fields. In addition, many of these CWD programs provide students the opportunity to participate in Industry Certification and State Licensure testing.
Work-based Learning Opportunities also allow students to earn high school credit for working at an approved job. Students involved may be allowed to leave school early during their junior and senior years for internships, clinicals, service learning or job shadowing. Check out https://www.powhatan.k12.va.us/page/career-and-workforce-development for more information on the program.
On April 28th, Powhatan County Economic Development attended CWD Signing Day! Fifteen seniors in various CWD programs at Powhatan County Public Schools signed contracts “committing” themselves to their future career after graduation. Many local electrical companies, machinery companies, a hair salon, and more were represented as business partners for our county’s future workforce; to include Flatrock mechanical, Dooleys Electric, R J Wade Electric, LLC, and Centrex.
💼 Our Economic Development Department is committed to continuing to connect local businesses with students in the CWD program looking for future employment opportunities. If your business would like to get involved, please email [email protected].
