On this day, 84 years ago, thousands of Americans were killed during the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor.
Today, Please Lets remember and honor those who fought and died to defend our freedom. Their sacrifice will not be forgotten.
As we mark the 84th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, we pause to honor the memory of those who lost their lives and to reflect on the courage displayed amid unimaginable chaos.
The assault began at 7:48 a.m. local time, when 353 Japanese aircraft—launched from six aircraft carriers—descended upon the harbor.
In two waves, they targeted battleships, airfields, and other military installations. The attack lasted less than two hours but inflicted catastrophic damage.
Eight U.S. battleships were damaged or sunk, including the USS Arizona, which exploded and sank with over 1,100 crewmen aboard. Twelve ships in total sank or were beached, and nine more were heavily damaged. More than 160 American aircraft were destroyed on the ground, and another 150 were damaged.
The human toll was staggering: 2,403 Americans were killed, including 2,008 Navy personnel, 109 Marines, 218 Army members, and 68 civilians.
Among the heroes were sailors like Dorie Miller, who manned a machine gun despite no training, and medical personnel who treated the injured under fire. The U.S. Coast Guard also played a vital role, with cutters like the Taney engaging enemy planes.
President Franklin D. Roosevelt called it "a date which will live in infamy," and the next day, Congress declared war on Japan.
This event united the nation and shifted the course of history, leading to Allied victory and the shaping of the modern world.
Today, sites like the USS Arizona Memorial stand as solemn reminders of the sacrifices made. We remember not just the loss, but the resilience of the Greatest Generation. Their bravery inspires us to cherish peace and defend freedom.
To the fallen and the survivors: Thank you for your service. May we never forget.
