We have ANT PLANTS in!

If you've never heard of an ant plant (Hydnophytum papuanum) they are super cool and so interesting!

Ant plants are epiphytic tropical plants that have a symbiotic relationship with, well, ants! They are native to Southeast Asia and Papua New Guinea, but grow well here in Florida and/or as houseplants (no ants needed😆). Their swollen caudex naturally forms chambers that host ants in the wild, creating a fascinating plant–insect symbiotic relationship. In cultivation they grow perfectly well without ants and are prized for their unusual form and collectible nature.

Available for shipping through link below (or, if local, contact me for pickup without S&H fees).

Healthy Hydnophytum papuanum, commonly known as an Ant Plant, a fascinating tropical caudex species prized by plant collectors. • Species: Hydnophytum papuanum. Hydnophytum are relatively easy tropical houseplants when given the right conditions.

I had a great time helping with the Port Charlotte Library's "Crawling Caterpillars" program and "Butterfly Bonanza!" Lots of kids, adults, and families came to learn about butterflies, make crafts, and to watch the butterfly release. Youth Librarian, Ashley Guerzo, always does such a wonderful job organizing these events!

In past years, we have provided the library with butterfly eggs and caterpillars for their month long program. This year, due to the freeze, our butterfly garden took a hit so we didn't have much to provide them with - but CHEC in Punta Gorda came to the rescue! A special thank you to Charlotte Harbor Environmental Center for letting me pick up eggs, a chrysalis, and adult butterflies from your sanctuary to share with the kids. I know it was appreciated by all!

Side note: If you've never been to CHEC's butterfly house on Burnt Store Rd in Punta Gorda, it's fantastic. The volunteers there are amazing and work hard making it a beautiful and educational place to be. Great for all ages and free admission!
