SOUL is led by a dedicated group of students known as the SOUL Leadership Team. For the next few weeks we will be introducing SOUL Leaders who are innovative, creative and passionate about learning! Here at SOUL Garden, students are able to build skills in leadership, team building, off-campus engagement, and environmental stewardship--a skill set best reinforced outside of a classroom environment. The garden is intended to be a place of growth not only for plants but also for people.

Meet Shamsa Visone! Shamsa is the brainchild behind SOUL’s vision of ‘Empower students to take on the world.’ She has a passion for mentoring students in developing leadership skills and has worked with SOUL Leaders to develop programs that are aligned with SOUL’s mission ‘To cultivate leaders of tomorrow through student mentorship, environmental stewardship and a whole lot of organic gardening..’ Here's what Shamsa had to say about her experience: "I am convinced that today’s competitive environment demands that college students hit the ground running with strong critical thinking abilities, leadership skills, and project management competence – ‘soft skills’ that will shape the way they succeed on the job and in the community. With a ‘Think and Do’ philosophy at the heart of all of SOUL’s programs, the garden operations are set up to give students the opportunity to build their skills, self-confidence and passion for learning by engaging. ”

We'd like to introduce Jamie Cochran! Jamie is SOUL’s Social Media Manager.

Jamie is a sophomore in Environmental Technology & Management and hopes to use her degree to help make an impact on the way people see and treat the natural environment.
Jamie has been tasked to all SOUL social media posts and blog and we have been super happy with her performance. Jamie has the special ability to manage multiple projects, deliver on time with a smile and a great attitude. If you’re an employer, looking for a candidate with dependability and project management skills, Jamie Cochran has those skills.

We'd like to introduce Maitland Gurney! Maitland is the Special Projects Manager. Maitland is a freshman in the Exploratory Studies class and hopes to major in accounting by next year. Maitland has been tasked to coordinate two major projects for SOUL: Installing an irrigation system in collaboration with Engineers Without Borders and working with Grounds to install 4 posts and fencing. Here's what Maitland has to say about the experience so far: “I would say that my experience so far with the SOUL Garden, has been challenging. The two projects have been full of emails, collaboration and organization overall. Through my experience I believe I have gained many skills, that would be useful in my future. Some of these skills include effective communication with others, coordination and project management and leadership development in a team oriented environment. ”
