I’d like to formally apologize to every electrician I’ve ever judged for your messy ways.

After a recent bathroom electrical install I chose to take on myself, the floor looks like a crime scene involving wire insulation, boxes, and plastic packaging...exactly what I have complained about from my electricians.

I have seen the chaos. I have lived the chaos. Now I am the chaos...I now understand. Much respect to the trade.

Ever see a part that looks like it belongs in a time‑travel movie?

This little guy isn’t a flux capacitor, t’s a condenser contactor. And believe it or not, when this part fails, your entire air conditioner can suddenly stop working.

It always seems to happen on the hottest, most humid days, right when you need your AC the most.

The good news: issues like this are often quick to diagnose and repair. If your AC suddenly goes silent...it might be something simple, so reach out. We can usually get you taken care of quickly and safely so you can stay comfortable on the couch, keep watching your game, your show, or whatever you’re into, and let us handle the rest.

Just over here putting in a storm door while Kansas tries to carry it to Missouri. 😆

Handyman work in Kansas quickly becomes survival of the fittest.

Kansas clay is no joke!

This is what we’re working with out here...dense, hard‑packed soil that squeezes into a solid ball like putty.

A quick fix: auger the hole, add compost, a pinch of bone meal, mix it all by hand, and suddenly the soil goes from concrete to plant‑ready.

This is how we turn Kansas clay into a garden that actually produces.

Auger is from Amazon: https://amzn.to/4dk694P

This is why we overwinter our pepper plants.

The little guy in the solo cup is this year’s start… the big one behind it is last year’s plant already loaded with peppers.

In June we’ll be eating peppers while the new starts are still thinking about it.

The garden is waking up and the pollinators are clocking in.

Our sage is in full bloom right now and absolutely covered in bees... they’re working every flower like it’s their day job.

What’s blooming in your garden or yard that the pollinators can’t resist? Drop a pic or tell me what’s buzzing at your place.

Imagine if you were a worm...while this finished compost rains down on you...its like hearing Mom yell, "Suppers ready!" 😂
A little compost‑screening satisfaction for your day. This is our 25‑gallon bucket setup with a simple 1×4 frame and hardware cloth.

This is the part most people never see... the moment when kitchen scraps, leaves, and yard waste finally turn into usable black gold. No smell. No pests. Just a few minutes a week and nature does the rest.

Eventually, I'll figure out a way to automate this so it is even less labor...anyone do this and what system do you use?

From scraps to black gold. Our compost system takes what most people toss in the trash and turns it into free fertilizer for the garden, flowers, and lawn. No smell, no pests, and only a few minutes a week to keep it going.

You can pay to haul your scraps away… or let your backyard ecosystem do the work for you. You can pay for fertilizer, or get it free in your back yard. This will sit about another month after sifted to further break down and get that dark black color.

These are our Pontiac Reds, they’re always the first out of our potato varieties to wake up each year. We planted them in early March during those freezing temps with nothing more than a handful of bone meal and a pinch of wood ash. After that, we don’t feed them or mess with them until they start budding out with flowers. That’s their signal that tubers are forming below the soil and they’re ready for a little boost.

Today was that day, so they got about an inch of our homemade compost, which starts as chicken manure, grass clippings, leaves, and kitchen scraps. Amazing what these plants can do with just a little help at the right time. We'll be eating on these in 2-3 weeks from now.

With our last frost date here in Kansas (Area 5B) still looming, the garden is trying to wake up anyway. Picked a few strawberries and an asparagus spear this morning. Still holding off on planting the bulk of our seedlings, but it’s good to see the perennials waking up and already providing for the family.
