🌿 Plant Tip Tuesday

Pest checks take 10 seconds.
Always check the UNDERSIDES of leaves.

That’s where spider mites, thrips, and aphids like to start.

Quick routine:
• Flip a few leaves over once a week
• If you see tiny dots/webbing or sticky spots, isolate the plant ASAP

Want a simple “what pest is this?” guide? Comment “PESTS” and I’ll send you one.

🌿 Plant Tip Tuesday

Bottom-watering is a game changer for thirsty plants.

How:
• Set the pot in a bowl of water
• Let it soak 10 to 20 minutes
• Pull it out and let it drain

Why it works: the roots drink what they need, and you’re less likely to overwater from the top.

Plant Tip Tuesday: Compost is plant food, not plant soil.

If you’re growing houseplants inside and food outside, compost can be your quiet little superpower. It brings life back into the soil, helps hold moisture, and feeds your plants slowly over time.

Here’s a gentle way to use it without overwhelming your plants:

1) Top dress it.
Add a thin layer (about 1/2 inch) on top of the soil, keeping it a little away from the stem. Then water it in softly.

2) Mix it in when you plant or refresh beds.
For pots and garden beds, aim for compost to be about 20 to 30% of your mix. Too much can hold water too long for some plants.

Soft reminder: compost is an amendment, not a full replacement for potting mix.

If you want to start composting, begin simple:
• “Greens” (kitchen scraps) + “browns” (dry leaves, shredded cardboard)
• Keep it as damp as a wrung out sponge
• Turn it when you remember

Question for you: are you composting right now, or thinking about starting a pile or bin this season? 💛

New house… new garden chapter.

I’ve got a ginormous front yard, a side yard, and a big backyard, and I’m honestly still taking it all in. But I’m starting with the side yard first because this space is becoming something really special to me: a kid-friendly garden plus a little gardening classroom where learning feels like play.

Right now you’re going to see the BEFORE.
The “in progress.”
The dirt-under-my-nails days.

I’m building this out slowly and intentionally, adding garden boxes as I go (and yes, more boxes will be added along the way). I also want to add little details that make gardening feel exciting and possible for kids, even if they’ve never planted a thing before.

This is the vision:
🌱 raised beds that are easy to reach
🌻 simple lessons + hands-on activities
🪴 space to plant, water, observe, and celebrate every tiny sprout
🧺 a calm, safe place to get curious and learn what growing really looks like
🍅 eventually: veggies, herbs, flowers, and all the fun “look what we grew!” moments

If you’ve got kids, grandbabies, students, or you just love seeing little ones connect with nature, stay close. I’m going to be sharing the before-and-afters as we build this garden classroom step by step.

🌿 Tip Tuesday 🌿

A lot of plants don’t need “more” water… they need better watering.

Water slow.
Stop when it drips.
Empty the saucer.

This helps prevent soggy soil + root rot, and it keeps your plant happy in the long run 💚

The secret to thriving plants? It's simpler than you think 🌱

Most plants don't actually want to be watered every day. They want to feel the soil, breathe, and rest between waterings.

Here's the gentle approach:
✨ Check the soil with your finger 👇🏾 if it feels dry an inch down, it's time to water
✨ Water slowly until it drains from the bottom, then let it rest

What's your go-to watering routine? I'd love to know what's working for your green space 💚

Happy Earth Day 🌍💚

A gentle reminder to slow down and care for the spaces that care for us.

Today, do one small thing:
🌿 water a plant
🌿 repot something that’s been waiting
🌿 step outside and breathe for 5 minutes

What’s one Earth Day habit you want to keep all year?

National Gardening Day

Today is a sweet reminder that growing something, anything, is an act of care. A few minutes in the soil can shift your whole day.

And since it is Tuesday, here is your Plant Tip Tuesday too:
More light = faster growth.

If your indoor plants feel stuck (slow growth, smaller leaves, long gaps between leaves), it is usually a light issue, not fertilizer.

Try this:
- Move your plant 1 to 3 feet closer to a bright window (still indirect)
- Rotate weekly
- Add a simple grow light if your space is low light

Tell me what you are planting or tending today.
