What is your favorite plant species native to northwest Georgia?

I love Diospyros virginiana, the American Persimmon. It is incredibly sweet, like a date, and adds a beautiful pop of color in the landscape in the fall. In addition, it adds beautiful winter interest and is a wonderful food source for wildlife.

Remember, when you plant native, something is going to eat it. And that's the whole point!

Consider planting these on your property. To get fruit, you must have a male and female tree.

Take a look at these before and after photos taken at a clients rural property. Their goal wad to make their tornado shelter more visually appealing and already had a family heirloom rose installed. We removed grass, moved another heirloom peony to the area, planted tulips, and daffodils, as well as a series of tiny native plant starts. Folks, patience is a virtue because just a few months of waiting, and a coat of paint later, and their garden has SPRUNG to life. There were bees buzzing and a mysterious planting of milkweed sprouts has begun to appear, which means that there are native birds visiting this site already. When you plant native, great things happen fast! The client installed a cute edging to complete the garden. This was a low budget planting, but a huge reward has been received by the homeowners and local wildlife.
