Pop quiz: Do you know what any refrigeration system's worst enemy is?
We use dry nitrogen, strict procedures, and the tools below to fight it. This is our evacuation kit. A vacuum pump AND a good micron gauge are absolutely essential tools (probably the most important) to do this job correctly. There are all sorts of set-ups out there that work just fine, this happens to be ours. It does the job quickly and provides the verification we need.
Many people think that the vacuum pump is to pull air out of the lines, and they're not wrong. However, that air contains the mystery assailant, moisture! The reaction of modern hydroscopic oils and refrigerants with the water can form acid inside your system and burn your compressor out faster than you can say "At least I saved $$$ on the install!"
The evacuation (even with our super effective set-up) can take up to several hours. It's one of the most frustrating things to just have to wait for that process to work itself out. Holding below 500 microns is the goal! If it doesn't, there's a leak or moisture present. I don't know about you but I like to eliminate future headaches whenever I can. That extra hour is waaaaay cheaper than a new compressor!
You're not buying an appliance; you're buying the installation.
