☀️ Arkansas Heat vs. Your Fescue Lawn: Who's Winning? 🌾
Fescue loves our cool springs, but when that intense southern summer heat hits, it can take a real beating. Don't panic if your lawn is looking a little tired—here is how to keep it survival-ready until fall:
1. Water Deeply, Not Frequently
Ditch the quick daily spritz! Water 1 to 1.5 inches early in the morning (between 4 AM and 10 AM) just 2–3 times a week. This encourages deep root growth and prevents evaporation loss.
2. Raise That Mower Deck
Set your mower blades to 3.5 to 4 inches. Taller grass shades its own root system, keeps the soil cooler, and retains precious soil moisture much longer.
3. Leave the Clippings
As long as you're mowing regularly, let the fine clippings stay on the lawn. They act as a natural mulch to retain moisture and shade the soil.
