Welcome to Nelson Restoration! We refinish kitchen and household cabinets as well as restoring vintage wood furniture. We also paint staircases and exterior wood doors. We can fix some minor damages but overall we are not cabinet builders. However we do have some recommendations if needed. Gray is not dead. Gray is timeless. 🤍
And this project is proof.

This home started with traditional oak kitchen and bathroom cabinets and was completely refreshed with a soft light silver gray finish that feels clean, elevated, and classic. We forgot to note the exact color name, but honestly it is one of those shades that is even better in person. Paired with new hardware, the transformation instantly modernized the entire space without losing warmth.

This is why gray continues to stand the test of time. It adapts to changing styles, works beautifully with a wide range of decor, and gives homeowners flexibility for years to come.

Nelson Restoration | Sacramento Project Reveal

Our team just wrapped up a beautiful transformation in Sacramento and the results are stunning. The client had older dark wood vintage style cabinets throughout their home including the kitchen, pantry, bedroom closet, and two railings. We refinished everything in “Alabaster” by Sherwin Williams to brighten and modernize the entire space. New hardware was installed throughout and the whole home feels refreshed and elevated.

These full home projects always remind us how much a change in finish and tone can impact the warmth and flow of a space. If you have been thinking about refreshing your home, this is your sign.

Another beautiful transformation in Elk Grove! This home went from traditional oak cabinetry to a soft, calming color palette that feels both modern and inviting. 🌿💧

The kitchen cabinets were refinished in Sherwin Williams “Clary Sage”, a muted green that brings warmth and serenity to the space. The island features “Dover White”, creating a light and airy contrast that ties the look together. In the bathroom, we refinished the cabinets in “Raindrop”, a soothing blue that adds a touch of tranquility.

Every surface was carefully prepped, refinished, and completed with new handle hardware for a clean, cohesive finish.

Not every cabinet project comes with a bold before-and-after transformation… sometimes, the magic is in the details you don’t see from far away. 👀✨

Our latest client loved the original color of their kitchen but hated how it was holding up. The previous painter used interior wall paint (yep—wall paint!) on their cabinets, which led to chipping, flaking, and peeling. Cabinets take daily wear and tear and need the right kind of durable coating to stand the test of time.

Real Talk: Why hiring licensed contractors matters. 🛠️📋

On the last day of one of our recent projects — during install day — we had to temporarily leave a stack of finished cabinet doors leaning against the kitchen wall while waiting for another contractor’s crew to finish their portion of the job. In coordination with their contractor, they planned to help with a partial install.

Unfortunately, one of their crew members accidentally knocked over the entire stack of completed doors, causing major damage — cracked panels, chipped corners… a weeks worth of work ruined in seconds.

Luckily, because they were a licensed contractor, they were insured, bonded, and liable for the damage. After negotiating responsibility, we were able to repair and refinish the doors — but the point is this:

👉 If this had been an unlicensed handyman or side-hustle crew, the cost may have fallen entirely on the client.
👉 A licensed contractor is legally responsible and carries the insurance to make things right.

Other reasons to always choose licensed professionals:
✅ They are trained to code and up to date on regulations
✅ They pull the correct permits when needed
✅ They’re accountable to state licensing boards
✅ They are properly insured to cover accidental damage
✅ Their reputation and license are on the line — so they care

Our Story

What started out as a hobby, has now blossomed into a full-time entrepreneurial home-based adventure. The requests to refinish kitchen and household cabinets have been overwhelming yet rewarding to say the least. We are grateful for the abundant amount of eager home improvement fans in our area.

Remodeling your kitchen can be a daunting and expensive task but it doesn’t have to be. Painting your existing cabinets is a very practical and inexpensive way to brighten up your space while recycling your own materials. Not only does this help save the environment but it also saves time and money. No need for a heavy construction demolition anymore. This is the process that we provide now as well as still being able to be commissioned to refinish your own vintage wood furniture pieces.

In our spare time, we rescue many types of vintage, antique, and modern furniture and up-cycle them into shabby, chic, and country cottage styles by refinishing the exteriors using a variety of chalk paints and stains. Sometimes we re-purpose damaged, discontinued or obsolete items into fun, unique and creative new pieces. We also create trendy rustic home decor using pallets and reclaimed wood. For now any available items for sale can currently be bought in cash. For commissioned pieces or household cabinet jobs, we accept cash or check.
