A little surprise on my way to “work” this morning! I enjoy designing out of my home office... even with the crazy part time school schedule and the kids being in my office more than I’m used to... these little love notes make the hustle worth it! 🥰

I’m looking forward to having house guests for the long weekend! It’s been a while since we had friends occupy our guest suite... so I stopped by to pick up a couple pieces I had been eyeing from the new line. I adore this faux fern! It is so realistic and life like without the hassle of watering... score!! The limestone knot was the perfect compliment. I’ve linked these items and a few other things I use to spoil my guests here...

I’m curious... What has been you favorite quarantine project? I recently finished this space at the end of a hallway leading into our master bedroom. I knew I wanted a focal point on this wall yet I didn’t want it to be too overpowering. While shopping for a vintage hand tied rug for another space in our home... it hit me! Rugs aren’t just for floors... they can be used on the wall as a work of art to add a subtle textured and cozy feel. The hunt was on to find the right size European treasure for this niche!

I had a wonderful conversation with an old IG friend Kelly this morning. The topic of furnishing a new home came up and I told her it has taken me over a year and a half to “finish” my home... and I’m not even truly finished! For example, this raw steel barn door in my hubby’s office that hides the unorganized clutter was just installed last weekend. When moving into a new home... whether it is newly built or new to you... it’s taxing on the pocketbook. Many people feel pressured to furnish and completely decorate their new home immediately upon move in. I’m here to tell you to STOP putting pressure on yourself to be perfect! If I would have selected a barn door for this space when I was designing the house... I think I would have gone a different direction in materials and style! I am so glad I waited until we moved in and I lived in this space to select a door that compliments his office. As a designer, I encourage my clients to select finishes that are not easy to change... and make those a priority. If budget and or time is an issue, eliminate decorative items you can easily add after move in. This will take pressure off of having to make a hard decision when there are so many other decisions that need to be made! The important thing to remember is that you are on a journey... so be ok with things not being perfect... especially on day 1!

When it comes to adding greenery in our home, I prefer to use real natural plants. However, most of the time they fall victim to my black thumb... unless they are succulents which are nearly impossible to kill! I have always dreamed of placing a real olive in our entryway because of the copious amounts of natural light... but I’m terrified it will become my next victim. Any tips on how to keep an olive tree alive indoors? Please share!!

When I was in 5th grade, I wove a nest ornament to clip into the Christmas tree as a gift for my parents. My teacher told me that finding a nest in your tree was good luck. Look what I just found in our Magnolia...

Our furnishings are starting to arrive! I really like the look of lighter couches, however we have a furry cat who we adore... so upholstery wasn’t a consideration... and leather it is! On another note, I am completely enjoying these warm spring days when we leave the walls open ALL DAY LONG! Outdoor furnishings are on their way and I can’t wait to show you how we extend our living space into our loggia to bring a bit of the fresh outdoors in!

Layered rugs is a trend I am totally digging lately! I like to weave textures into designs... and layering rugs is an easy way to add dimension when defining a congregational space. In our great room I chose to use texture over color/pattern to create a calm cohesive feel in the space where our family likes to relax.
Tell me... are you liking the layered rug look?!?

The calm before the storm... we have one more dry day before another storm comes in! Now that it is officially spring, I am itching to get started with the landscape for our Farmhaus. Curb appeal is such an important piece to any home. I am keeping the landscape modern and clean with various green textures and pops of white florals. What are your favorite plants to enhance curb appeal?

The sun finally graced us with its presence so we are making progress on the pool tile! The vanishing edge spillway from the spa to the pool is finished! Herringbone is not a typical pattern you see in pools... but sometimes you have to think outside the box! I have another unique idea for the exterior walls of the spa and I have faith that my team will knock it out of the park with this next project! Next up... pool coping and patio pour... bring on the concrete!
