This print presented an intriguing challenge to accomplish, as the intricate details that create the illusion in the center square were fascinating to witness emerge with each successive shirt screened.

That pile on the right? All scrap… yep, about $400–$500 worth of wood. Not mistakes—just part of the process.

The other side is the board… well, almost. Still needs to be cut in half and matched back together within 1/32 so the pattern lines up just right.

This is the art of end grain—lots of cuts, lots of glue, and a whole lot of wood sacrificed to get it exactly how it should be. Fine-tuning underway.

No heat in the shop, so I had to wait for the weather to cooperate like it’s part of the build process now.

Finally got a warm day… so naturally I rushed out there like a man on a mission and glued up the cutting board.

Step 1: Glue it
Step 2: Cut it
Step 3: Realize I need to glue it… again

At this point I’m not building a cutting board—I’m just converting perfectly good wood into expensive sawdust with extra steps.

Also pretty sure I’ve used more glue than lumber. If this thing ever fails, it won’t be from weak joints—it’ll be from the sheer emotional damage of how many times it’s been cut apart and brought back to life.

End result?
A cutting board… and about $147 worth of artisanal sawdust.

Stay tuned for the final glue-up (until the next “final” glue-up).

The low temperatures have prevented me from finishing my wood project, as I am concerned about glue performance without heat in the garage.

Meanwhile, I have been productive with 80 hoodies, completing embroidery, packaging, and shipping.

Next project is 5 custom jackets and a few polos. At least I’m staying warm in the office.

Sanded and ready to cut and glue… for the third time. If you’ve ever wondered why patterned, end-grain cutting boards cost $$$ — this is why.

Going to wait for little Skunk to help me with the glue-up. He’s expsive but worth the cost.

And before anyone says it — if it looks out of square, it’s the 2x4 it’s sitting on. I’ve checked the measurements way too many times 🤣

Today’s goals…

Scape the glue from one side then joint it square.

Run thru drum sander to clean up to make it 3” tall.

Took about 2 hours all in all.

Tomorrow… we should cut and make an + into the wood and glue it with another insert. Measurements needs to be very close to perfect as possible or the pattern won’t work. Here to more fun tomorrow night.

Then I can start gluing the cutting board 😂
