Their end-of-semester projects are proof of just how talented and dedicated they both are. Balancing work and school is no small feat, and these two made it look effortless. Recycling is nothing new when it comes to sustainability, but researchers at MIT have found that the same durability that makes PET plastic (like water bottles) so bad for the environment also makes it ideal for a building material. The team has tested multiple 3D-printed recycled-plastic structural components, including trusses! The linked article takes a more in-depth look at their process and future potential for the project.

What do you get when you mix sawdust with an enzyme found in watermelon seeds? According to researchers, a new type of fireproof, recyclable composite panel. The team leading the research says the material could be used on interior walls as a lightweight alternative to cement-bonded particleboards.
