μῆνις
MÊNIS bastard daughter of immortal gorgon sister, Stheno.
She was never supposed to happen and exists in spite of mortals, gods and titans. She fits nowhere and is so toxic and deadly she cannot even be near her own family. There is no part of her that is beautiful. Blood and gore covers her face and body and pours from her mouth.
She is filled with hate for her own existence. She lives a lonely and endless life. Time and again, her island cavern is visited and time and again, her visitors are slain. She does not turn her attackers to stone like the rest of her kin. Her curse is far worse. If she gets her claws into you, or her cobras strike you, your blood will turn to acid in your very veins and melt your insides into what will later be her supper.
She tries again and again to reproduce, in hopes that she will not be alone for all of eternity, but each time, her children have been stillborn. She only reproduces because she chooses to, a mate is not required (parthenogenesis). Mênis does not know if she will ever have a living child, but she defends each of her blood red eggs with what can only be described as a divine fury in hope that someday, she will have one small speck of light in her otherwise dark and violent world.
(I'm going to get back to work on some smaller projects now, but this one was honestly a passion project for me. I've been obsessed with Greek mythology my whole life and have always been captivated by the gorgon sisters.
I took plenty of creative liberties. I guess you could call this a piece of Greek Mythology FanFic art 😅 I am well aware that Medusa is the only gorgon that reproduced, but she was also the only one of her sisters that was mortal & she was also r***d by a god...sooooooo since it is not know if her immortal sisters could or could not produce offspring, it's been said that they might have been able to through parthenogenesis.
Aside from the obvious Gorgon inspiration, she was just a really personal piece for me. She represents all of the rage I don't display on the surface. She represents my extreme loneliness and my fierce love for my child.
Her name, Mênis (μῆνις) translates to "wrath" or "divine rage," often associated with the anger of gods or heroes. Mênis is more than just ordinary anger. It's a powerful, almost divine rage that can have far-reaching consequences.
Mênis is not just an emotional state but also a force that can disrupt social norms and even cosmic order. )
