I know, I know. Homegrown is superior.

But this homegrown garlic? The BEST. The bulbs are smaller than store bought (which is typically soft neck garlic) but hard neck garlic has larger individual cloves.

I think the taste is almost - softer? A bit more “true” garlic vs very overpowering? Either way, this ish slaps. 🧄

Oh, and look at how beautiful the color of the skin is after it’s cured.

Resist instant gratification; start a garden.

Raise your hand if you're a victim of expecting immediate results from even the smallest effort. ✋

"Wow, I worked hard for 2.5 seconds, so I should be perfect at XYZ right away." -me, all the time.

There is no success without a little elbow grease. There is no fruit without the months, and months of quiet, buried growth.

When you reframe it, you realize the work IS the reward, because without it, there's nothing. 🌱🌿

Pssst... did you know sometimes multiple parts of your plants are edible? 👀

One of my favorite early summer dishes is fried squash blossoms, known in Italy as fiori di zucca fritti.

I harvest the male blossoms after making sure they've pollinated a fruit, and then stuff them. I fill them with whipped cottage cheese, parm, parsley, basil, and, of course, freshly picked garlic.

After that, they get beer-battered and lightly fried. 😋

Not only are squash blossoms delicious, but they're also packed with vitamins A & C, minerals like iron and calcium, and antioxidants.

SO many plants have other edible components besides the fruit. Hardneck garlic varieties produce scapes; you can make carrot top pesto, and radish and beet greens are also edible.

I make it a goal to use as much of what my plants give me, and then compost the rest!
