Last week I spoke with a customer who was looking for something to plant in a shady area underneath a Black Walnut tree. I was reluctant to recommend anything for that space not because we don't carry shade tolerant plants but because of the tree providing the shade. Black Walnuts create a compound that inhibits the growth of other plants nearby. This phenomenon is known as allelopathy. After this encounter I was curious whether or not there are plants resistant to the allelopathic compounds created by Black Walnuts. That question led me to this publication from Penn State.

Been a couple big weeks for the landscape crew.
As for the nursery just like our garden beds it seems to be time to put it to bed for the winter. We are open Friday and Saturday by request. So if you would like to come down give us a call and we would love meet up with you.

With the season coming to an end it is time for us to cut our days back at the nursery. We will now be taking mondays off to explore the wild world or cozy up by a fire and read books till winter fully arrives.
