Paint day in the basement apartment.

Masked the floors and cabinets, then sprayed all the walls and trim with Chantilly Lace.

Amazing what a fresh coat of paint can do.

Installed all the trim, filled the nail holes, and caulked everything.

Now itโ€™s finally ready for paint.

Getting close to finishing this unit.

Adding a vent to the above range microwave.

One thing every basement apartment needs: a vented range hood.

Otherwise youโ€™ll smell everything your tenants cook ๐Ÿ˜‚

Cut through the cabinet, ran a duct outside, and boxed it in with drywall.

Definitely worth the extra work.

Swapped out the old light fixtures for can lights in the basement apartment.

Removed the old lights, broke out the boxes, cut bigger holes, and wired in the new lights.

Simple upgrade, but it makes a huge difference.

After adding the dryer vent, I officially closed off the apartment from the rest of the house.

I hung the drywall, then mudded and sanded everything.

I definitely didnโ€™t do myself any favors with all the different corners and angles, but it all came together in the end.

Now itโ€™s finally ready for paint.

Getting really close to finishing this unit.

Added the dryer vent for the new laundry area in the basement apartment.

Installed a recessed dryer box, vented it out the side of the house, and had to cut some drywall to run the duct along the floor joists.

Getting close to finishing this unit.

Continuing the basement project.

Needed to add a laundry drain for our mother-in-law apartment.

Luckily this wall was framed double, so I was able to squeeze the pipe between the walls without cutting up a bunch of studs.

Continuing the basement project.

This hallway felt way too narrow, so I widened it.

Removed some drywall, braced the floor joists, installed a new header, moved the outlet, and now itโ€™s ready for drywall.

Starting a new project.

After making the basement rental unit smaller, we finally get some space back.

First step was demo day. Removed the trim, carpet, and pad.

Lots more work coming. Stay tuned.

From closet to luxury bathroom.

I demoed the closet, jackhammered the concrete, installed all new plumbing, waterproofed the shower, tiled everything, and finished it off with LED lighting and custom finishes.

Hard to believe this used to be a closet.

Love how it turned out.
