end of the first week of the new year and still waiting for my word for the year to come to me. a few have been lingering but none just rang that bell if you know what I mean. till then, I am leaving this little coaster wisdom that I stumbled on this week that sums up my desire for the coming year. is ta-dah a real word? because it’s the closest I have come so far.

seeking peace, focus, and less busy-ness. more wonder + curiosity and definitely more ta-dahs. starting off purging that which doesn’t serve me (things + thoughts) so that I can create more room + quiet to welcome happy ta-dahs and new discoveries.

what do you think? my other contenders were resilience, courage, simplicity; but maybe it’s just ta-dah? sounds like more fun + sparkle. 🤷🏻‍♀️ maybe I should keep it small + simple in honor of tonight’s micromoon rising.

She’s back on the bike! Many of you know my daughter Emily’s passion for bike riding. Her previous adventures have taken her from Amsterdam to Venice (twice), once across the USA from South Carolina to San Diego and countless other trips but this time she’s is riding 190 miles in the PMC benefiting Dana-Farber Institute raising funds to help fight cancer. And it’s a personal mission for Emily, as her Dad has fought cancer not once but 4X and he is healthy today because of all the brilliant advancements in cancer treatments.

- 190 Miles from Sturbridge Mass to Provincetown
- Founded in 1980, the Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) is an annual bike-a-thon that today raises more money for charity than any other single athletic fundraising event in the country.
- 100% of every rider-raised dollar is donated to Dana Farber Cancer Institute.

WHAT IS THE PMC?
Each summer, thousands of riders, volunteers and supporters gather for a bike-a-thon across Massachusetts on the first weekend in August with a common mission: raise funds to fight cancer in support of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

The PMC is a fully supported bike-a-thon that provides riders with fundraising tools and guidance, meals and snacks at hub sites and waterstops along routes, mechanical and medical assistance, and luggage, bike and rider transportation.
This support allows riders to focus on why they’re riding: to fund cancer research and provide Dana-Farber's doctors and researchers with the necessary resources to discover cures for all cancers. “What we do here, changes lives everywhere.”

Never underestimate anyone. ever. An important lesson brought home this week working with artisans in Tunisia. I met this lovely gentleman under substantially different situations last spring, a 3 day Market Readiness training program developed by Aid to Artisans / Creative Learning and supported by the US State Dept. We were four to their 50; passionate local makers and artisan entrepreneurs of a broad range of experience and scale.Throughout the days, in between seminars,we had 1:1 visits with all - reviewing their samples and learning about their business + goals. Briham, a mosaic master, brought a simple 8” mosaic plaque to represent his work, crudely finished and clearly well-loved. He did not have any other pictures. He became the self-appointed speaker for the other mosaic artisans giving a most impassioned speech claiming his pride for Tunisian handicrafts and the importance of innovation + creativity to save the struggling mosaic community. Even with the help of the translators it felt a bit incongruent at the time - til it all made sense when we visited his workshop this week, filled to the brim with original abstract designs - exploding colors - strong graphics and books on modern art falling off the shelves - clearly his touchstone and inspiration. We are excited to include his work in our project debuting at Las Vegas market next month.

Mornings in Tunisia. My room comes with a view of the Mediterranean looking out over Azzidine Alaia’s home in Sidi Bou Saïd. At the very top of North Africa- nestled between Algeria and Libya and sharing a line of latitude with Sicily’s south coast, lies a very special place. Few American tourists visit, which is their loss. Tunisia is the only Arab country since the Arab Spring that has successfully transitioned to democracy and the sense of optimism is palpable.
