Time to patch the old heater I removed and move on with this secondary bathroom remodel. I cut a 12" x 18" rectangle in a sheet of 1/2" thick drywall. I used drywall nails and hammered my drywall piece into the 2x4 framing that already existed in the wall. I spread a thin layer of mud over the drywall then attached mesh tape around the edges to prevent cracking. I then mudded another layer over the top. I waited 24 hours so the mud would dry thoroughly. I applied drywall tape around the edges of where the drywall sheet would be and layered one more layer of mud. I'm waiting another 24 hours to sand and then texture!

They cool thing about an older house are it's quirks! However, they can be the challenges too.
This was in the wall of my secondary bathroom that I've been working on.
It was an old heater that was disassembled and a patch cover was screwed in, to cover it.
It's time for this to be gone. So what do I do?
-I unscrewed the patch cover to reveal the old heater.
-I investigate the situation. I can see that wires that are capped, so that means it could be HOT (aka, I could get zonked if I'm not careful).
-I turned off the power to the house.
-I used my chisel and pried the tin until I could see what was happening behind it.
-I unscrewed a bolt holding the capped wires in place.
-I can see that the apparatus is bolted in by steel and attached to 2x4 framing.
-I loosened the old nails used to attach the steel plates, with the back of the hammer.
-And simply removed the old heater from the wall.
Yay! I'm so happy to see exposed 2x4s because that's exactly what I need to support my new piece of drywall!
An old house can keep you busy!

The Pinterest pin that changed my life! ❤️Ha. I had no idea that Lowe's cut mirrors and glass. So I had to share.
---I brought my old vanity mirrors in (they were old and peeling) and someone cut them to size!
I purchased a Diamond Sharpening Tool to smooth the edges. Easy Peasy.
A pro mirror company wanted $200 to cut and install, Lowe's did it for $12. Thank you Pinner!

The porcelain tub and sink was refinished!
Looks brand new huh?
This was incredible! To replace the tub and sink would mean cracking all the tiles that surround them and lots of expense to replace. We love this old little bathroom with lots of charm and just want to clean it up!
Our best option was to have them refinished. A company came out, taped everything off, patched the chips and sprayed.
Voila...brand new!

Removing old faucets!
I think this is the original faucet in this house. In order to remove it, I needed to get under the sink and turn off both hot and cold water. A couple of bolts from the hoses were removed. Then a plumbers tool (and my husbands muscles) were needed to turn the two plastic nuts that kept it all together (you can purchase the tool at any hardware store). Pretty easy...however, when the drain was removed, the pipes crumbled due to rot.
It was another trip to Home Depot to ask my Pro's what's next.
It turned out to be a drain piece set. Another easy fix! Yay.
When removing something in an old house, have lots of patience because there's a huge chance something else could be disturbed or awaiting an update.
I purchased an adorable new faucet and I'll wait until after the sink and tub are refinished before putting it back in.
So far so good and it's all coming together, nicely!

Momma bought a new toy! Ha.
It's not the best drill on the market but pretty close for me and great price.
I chose Ryobi because the battery is interchangeable with the nail gun that I'm purchasing next!
I bought this at good ol' trusted Home Depot. If your doing any DIY projects...you'll get to know these guys!
Talk to the peeps at the PRO desk. I asked employees who the best was until I met my buds. Teehee
They are a world of knowledge and can explain and help me with just about anything.
The one thing that makes me so proud and happy is that not one man has told me I can't do it or shouldn't! They are always helpful and so encouraging!
They even helped me pick out my new drill and told me about the next sale.
