I’ve been working on something new.

It’s not digital. It’s not a course. It arrives in your actual mailbox. 📪

Here’s a sneak peek.👀

When other women responded to me with how busy they were, I felt something in my gut. A tightening. An irritation.

“Are they flexing on me?” I’m busy too.

Busy is a great place to hide. It has excellent lighting.

There’s a lot of noise right now.A lot of distractions. Intentional.

I naively thought the grown-ups in the room would manage this properly.

They have not.

So we stop betting on themand we start betting on ourselves.
We do not look away.We do not get distracted.

This is for the women who haven’t said a word. The ones listening and watching closely to see who will stand up.The ones carrying more than they let on.

I see you.I am you.

One focus.These files.

How we talk about this matters.
Someone affected is always listening.
Choose them.

Share and show your support for those women who need it most.

If you need support it is available.

You don’t have to carry this alone. 🤍

Tiny glimmers of joy exist all around. It's up to us to find them.
This beautiful row of tiny mushrooms in my yard made me smile.

In case you need it, this is your reminder that it’s ok to turn the news off. Social media too.

Take a break. For your mind, your soul and your heart.

Get outside.

Go to a farmer’s market.

Plant some mums.

Go out to dinner with friends.

Go to the bookstore.

Make a fall recipe you’ve been waiting to try.

Work on a fall themed puzzle.

Do whatever brings you joy. Refuel. Reset.

It will all still be here when you get back.

I am beyond heartbroken that Charlie Kirk was assassinated. I have a son his age. He has two beautiful daughters, a wife and extended family. My heart goes out to all of them as they face a shattered world.

I am not here to discuss politics or gun policy. That is for another time. Anyone who reads my writings or follows me on social surely knows Charlie and I did not align on either of those topics. I have children who don't align with my politics and I don't align with my father's.

That used to be ok. It would lead to some very uncomfortable holiday gatherings for sure, but not to hate and killing.

We have gotten to a place in this country where we need to make some serious decisions. Not our politicians. They are failing us.

We, as humans, need to look in the mirror and decide what kind of world we want to create and leave behind.

Who do we want to be collectively moving forward?

There will be things said that will aim to further divide us in the coming days. Don't take the bait. Lead with your heart.

With love and kindness. Sympathy, empathy and compassion.

We have got to find a way to heal. It’s up to us. Each of us individually coming together.

The easy answer is anger. We’ve gotten very comfortable in that space.

The hard path forward is listening and finding a way to be compassionate towards one another. Even, and most importantly, when we strongly disagree.

I got so much pushback when I told people I would be traveling solo as a woman in my 50s across the country.

“By yourself”, I would hear over and over again.

No one questions me driving to target or the grocery store alone. It’s just a different highway.

I’m nine days in. I’ve gone from the coast of California to the coast of South Carolina. I’ve traveled through Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and now South Carolina. Tomorrow I start making my way north.

I’ve met the most incredible people. Have been reminded how friendly everyone in the south is. Have seen friends and family I haven’t seen in years. I’ve seen lightning, gotten soaked by the rain and listen to the thunder roll.

I’ve spent hours alone thinking and dreaming. My soul has reopened. I’ve been reminded we are all different and also how very much the same we are. I’m slowly resurfacing myself. Remembering my own strengths and passions. Remembering my purpose. Empathy, kindness and sharing.

If you’ve thought about it, or now you are, I highly recommend it. Five out of five bright shiny stars.

This week I'm pondering what it means to seek happiness.

This week I'm pondering what it means to seek happiness.

"What if we could all just be a little happier each day," she wondered.

Our Story

My husband and I have been flipping homes together since 2001. It was a passion born of necessity. We couldn’t afford a home that was “finished”. We bought the crappiest house on the block and got busy figuring out how to make it something we loved on a small budget working with our own hands and desire to create a space of love and laughter built around our life and family.

We’ve built many houses since this one but it will forever be my favorite. It’s where our journey together began. Both in our love story and in our passion for working together to design homes that bring joy to others.

Our passions are our family, good food and wine, friends and most importantly time spent around our kitchen island laughing together.
