🌊 Major Legal Victory: High Court's Stand Against Water Pollution

🔎In a landmark decision, the UK government and Environment Agency's approach to protecting our water bodies has been deemed insufficient.

💦We’ve met with the U.K. Environment Agency to discuss using our water quality analytics to identify non-point source pollutantion in streams and rivers, protect species and restore fish habitat.

💧Earth Analytics Group has developed a comprehensive water quality monitoring platform that is being used in California to identify and mitigate non-point source pollution, inform river & fish habitat restoration, forming the basis for flood control interventions for adaptation and resilience.

The U.K. 🇬🇧 can greatly benefit from the work we are delivering in the USA 🇺🇸 to monitor water quality, protect biodiversity and restore habitat.

First comprehensive (based on 2000 scientific papers) and holistic (looked at all aspects of human impact on the environment) review found that six of the nine critical planetary boundaries that define safe human existence have been breached with only one (the ozone layer) safe.

Prof Katherine Richardson, from the University of Copenhagen who led the analysis, said: “We know for certain that humanity can thrive under the conditions that have been here for 10,000 years – we don’t know that we can thrive under major, dramatic alterations [and] humans impacts on the Earth system as a whole are increasing as we speak.”

She said the Earth could be thought of as a patient with very high blood pressure: “That does not indicate a certain heart attack, but it does greatly raise the risk.”

We have only one planet that we are collectively utterly dependent on for our existence. We are conducting (and accelerating) a wild experiment with these planetary boundaries (see the extreme and tragic weather events of this summer) politicians, financiers and corporate executives need to step up and LEAD change, not pander to short termism (at the ballot box or the checkout).

We will look back very soon (less than 10 years) and ask what madness infected us that a newspaper headline (quite literally tomorrow's fish and chip wrapper) or marginally improved all singing, all dancing product launch was worth the disaster that's coming our way.
