San Francisco Urban Oasis - nestled in the city - incredible transformation of a sloped, deep, unused and weedy lot - now an amazing place to entertain, relax, garden and reflect. The owners have so much to enjoy - beautiful stone work, lighting and vegetable beds. I made a special spot for their dahlia garden - these dahlia's were his grandmothers he brought from her home and replanted here in San Francisco. Looking forward to the plants and trees to fill in - the beauty will keep developing through the years. I love doing these city backyards - they bring so much livable space and joy to the homeowners. They used to avoid looking at their backyard and it caused them so much stress and displeasure. Now - happiness - they feel like they have a park in their own backyard. They told me it is the first thing they admire in the morning and the last thing they look at in the evenings. And thank you to my builder Caffrey Landscapes for doing such an incredible job.

Final walk thru today for a remodel in Oakland...from an unused, sloping, patchy grassed lawn to a multi-leveled space with patios, bocce court, retaining walls, stairs, drought tolerant plantings, lighting and firepit. Homeowners say they never went in their yard before - and now their family live in it. The hummingbirds love the new plants and the deer stare in from outside the new deer fencing. Oakland is so beautiful.

This article popped up today and it highlights one of my projects in Tiburon. It is the 2nd house mentioned in the article - the estate on Straits View Drive... such an incredibly beautiful place- it was a joy to do.

Luxury home sales in the Bay Area jumped 46% this year as affluent buyers drove sales...

Always exciting to have a project featured on a website for garden design - this time it is for Shoot Gardening- they did a feature on projects that use CorTen (weathering) Steel. I love using this material in gardens for retaining walls, planters and firepits. As it ages, the color changes and it becomes more beautiful and organic looking.

Corten steel is often used in designer gardens. Here are some from our professional members portfolios.

ALMOST DONE!! Even during the shutdown, they kept working on it... I am loving how the safety surfacing design turned out - it is actually better than I imagined. The big wrapped up thing is a custom dragon slide we designed. You can see a glimpse of the big dragon feet. This playground has been in the works for 7 years(concept to construction). It should be done very soon - maybe we can all go - in 2021. :)

Earth laughs in flowers. -Ralph Waldo Emerson

Plant: Ceanothus thyrsiflorus var. griseus 'Yankee Point' - also known as California lilac. There is such variety in this plant - this one can be used as a ground cover - I am using it here also to trail over a wall. It is evergreen (always green) with these beautiful blue flowers that come out late winter/early spring. California Native, drought tolerant, easy. There are varieties that are ground covers, shrubs even trees. Just lovely and always brings me a smile.
