Choose the right finish for your living conditions. Super matte finishes can be less smooth and absorbent than standard satins, semi-gloss and glosses. The flattening agents added to achieve the extra matte appearance leave the surface more granular and vulnerable to spills holding on to the finish and harder to clean. Of course the attraction is a more natural look with the super matte sheen(or no sheen)..

Always leave expansion space in a wood floor installation, following the manufacturers guidelines. In this case the custom design called for no baseboards and for the flooring to run directly to the wall under a reveal to create a particular look. But the wood has its own natural requirements and expansion space can be critical....this often requires dialogue between the entities involved in the project to ensure that the floor performs well. You don’t want post installations issues!
