Back at the river finishing off removing the old cedar siding. Yet another reason I wish the previous owner would have repaired the cedar instead of cover it poorly with vinyl. Originally this was really good quality cedar. You won’t find siding boards 19 plus feet long too often. Such a shame they covered it which caused the termite infestation.

Replaced these two patio doors this week. Forgot to take before pictures but they were pretty rough. Rusty, rotted and very hard top open. Subfloor was damaged on one and I had to do some extensive repairs. Now both are properly installed ensuring water tightness and operate perfectly.

Client wanted to close off office and I suggested barn doors would be the most cost effective solution. It’s a large opening so I installed 42” x 96” door slabs with clouded glass with satin gold hardware. Also added the slow close hardware.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. If you have old cedar or the dreaded Masonite siding, Do Not be talked into covering it up with vinyl siding and wrapping added trim with pvc coil. Not only does it overall look like crap, It will always fail and leak and cause rot and termite infestation. This is an example of cedar siding that was covered not really that long ago; probably about 8 to 10 years and you can see all the moisture intrusion which rotted the added on trim and original cedar siding and also had a huge infestation of termites. Fortunately, there was another section I removed previously in the home and had been treated for termites at that time, so there was very little activity. While, it’s more expensive to remove the old junk siding before adding vinyl. It’s definitely the best route. That way, the home can be properly whether sealed before the addition of the new vinyl siding.
