I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. If you have old cedar or the dreaded Masonite siding, Do Not be talked into covering it up with vinyl siding and wrapping added trim with pvc coil. Not only does it overall look like crap, It will always fail and leak and cause rot and termite infestation. This is an example of cedar siding that was covered not really that long ago; probably about 8 to 10 years and you can see all the moisture intrusion which rotted the added on trim and original cedar siding and also had a huge infestation of termites. Fortunately, there was another section I removed previously in the home and had been treated for termites at that time, so there was very little activity. While, it’s more expensive to remove the old junk siding before adding vinyl. It’s definitely the best route. That way, the home can be properly whether sealed before the addition of the new vinyl siding.
