The use of pesticides has proven to affect the environment in a negative way. Many farmers are now returning to ancient environmentally friendly approaches concerning pest control. One method is known as the Biological Pest Control Method. This method involves the planting of flower strips that…

Farm Friend Corrine here:
My spinach has NEVER, EVER, grown well in the past.
Every year I’ve tried and tried to grow spinach in the garden, and every year I’ve failed miserably. The spinach either never grew up enough, ended up bolting before any leaves came on if it did, or it would get disease. We eat a ton of spinach, so I decided to try again one last time to grow it in our garden.
Well...SUCCESS!!! I finally found a variety that grows well in this area, will not bolt, and is not prone to disease! And, I have spinach overflowing in the garden! Swipe to check out how big these leaves are! 🤗
I did plant the spinach seeds in the bed that is now partially shaded by the new chicken coop - at first I was mad that we stuck the coop in the garden and it was shading a couple of my beds, but they actually ended up being the perfect beds for cold crops; like spinach, lettuce, kale, ect!
thank you for offering these magical seeds! I will be ordering these from you every year now. 🙌 🍃 👩🏻‍🌾...

Soooo many bubbles!!! .
I did a little experiment with my sourdough he other day. I made two separate batches of dough...one with added raw honey, and one without any sweetener as per usual. Swipe to see the huge difference it makes adding some kind of sugar to your dough! The little yeasties LOVE to feed on sugar, so the loaf really ‘blew’ up!!!
Such a fluffy loaf...honey is getting added to every batch from now on! 🙌...

HOLY SUNFLOWER SEEDS!!! 🌻
Last fall I harvested all the sunflower tops from our crop before all the rodents and birds decided to help themselves to the seeds. I kept them in a paper bag in the garage (we have 2 barn cats that help control the rodent population, otherwise mice would have for sure gotten into the bag) to let them really dry out good.
This morning I removed all the seeds from their current home to get ready to spread over our field where we had run all our meat chickens in the tractors...should be prime ground for these babies to grow in what with all the amazing fertilizer left by the birds (aka chicken p**p).
I’m hoping I can create a giant sunflower field this year - it’s actually always been something I’ve dreamt about if we ever had land.
I’ll post the seed planting process and what I plan on doing to make it easy to get these guys sprouting...since there’s like a million seeds! 😂🤪 - thanks to my farm friend for some great suggestions on this! 🙌
Check out my story for a clip!...

It was my first year planting tulips...80 bulbs in all. Let me tell ya...I will be planting hundreds more! Zero watering, and not much green thumb skill involved to produce beautiful tulips...all...day...long! I love spring blooms when the ‘April Showers’ bring all the rain!

Meet the new chick in town...a Lavender Orpington! We’ve named her “Lavi”, and she’s so beautiful! 😍
I’ve currently visited the feed store pretty much everyday to pick up new chicks I pre-ordered in...and I’m still waiting on 4 more. 🐣
We’ve got these girls inside the house so we can get FULLY attached and be able to handle/love on them every day (makes for friendly/easy to handle hens later on).
Also been working on decking out their little chick quarters...complete with a soothing lavender sachet to help calm them, a container full of dirt so they can practice their foraging and dust-bathing skills. Then, I still want to add a little mirror and a plastic tube they can crawl into = boredom busters.
Cheers to Spring and all the new babies! (Btw...still waiting on our new “kids” to arrive). 🐐 ...

Good Morning! Becky here ❤

It's Chick Day here in the Pacific Northwest (at least at our local Burns Feed Store) and we wanted to share a couple of poultry related posts with you all. Follow along here for 2 posts detailing differences in raising chickens for meat vs eggs and why this is the best time of year to start such a project.

Last year was the 3-4th time trying and first SUCCESSFUL run of a full larder of Cornish Cross chickens. We used the popular Joel Salatin method to raise these birds on pasture and at a reduced cost for true farm to table.

The outcome was amazing. This year we are raising twice (actually 3 times) as many so that they last longer than 2 months in the freezer.

Take a peek at the blog below to see how we did it! If anybody is interested we can do some live video posts soon showing the process.

Sourdough English muffins were a success!!!
I will never buy store-bought english muffins again! I can’t believe how easy these were to make and how absolutely delicious they were! Once batch made 16 muffins and they’re pretty much almost all eaten up lol!
Anyone interested in purchasing one of our dehydrated sourdough starter will also get the recipe for these babies included!
Can ship anywhere - comment or message for details! 🙌

Each year I try growing something new in the garden. Last year it was celery. I started celery seed in the green house and transplanted to a shady spot in the garden (Celery likes temps up to about 70 degrees, so a cool weather crop). The celery grew great and I had fresh celery into the month of December. This year I harvested what was left of the celery (Root) and transplanted to the new raised beds I built. I am amazed at how quickly the celery grew from root. This is a picture of the celery 2 weeks after transplanting the root. I suspect I will have celery soon and all summer / fall / early winter and of course , grown without dangerous pesticides.
