Guys! It's been REAL hot.
So that your plants don't end up looking like this cat, here's a couple rules we've been living by:
1) Water as early as you can - 5:30AM is probably best, but since I'm sure you're not all up at that hour, as early as possible will work. Don't go nuts with jacking up your watering times either - a slight increase will help, but no need to drown anybody.
2) When plants are wilted at the peak of the day, don't assume it's because they're dry - check the soil, stay involved with it's moisture level throughout the summer. IF it's dry, water a bit if you must, but try to wait until it cools down again. You'll be surprised by how tough plants are - they'll probably be right as rain in the morning without you watering in the middle of the day.
3) MULCH. You knew we would say that, though. Cover up bare soil, keep it moister for longer. Same rule goes for your skin - long sleeves, sun screen and hats are a must!
Happy summer survival, y'all
