As architects, we spend a lot of time working through details—figuring out assemblies so everything fits and transitions seamlessly. But every once in a while, you come across a builder who really brings those drawings to life.

This old-timer gets it. Hands-on, thoughtful, and fully engaged—building small mockups straight from the drawings, working through the details in real time, even sketching full-scale elements like the stone pier and timbers right on the building itself.

It’s a simple form of communication that doesn’t take long, but makes a huge impact. When the contractor, client, and architect can all see and understand the idea clearly, it leads to better decisions and better results.

People often ask what architects do. Beyond creating the design, we’re really the conductor in the background—bringing all the parts together into one cohesive whole.

Kitchens can be the most important part of the home—and it takes a team to build your dream.

The architect and contractor work closely together, alongside their teams, to bring a vision to life. Take this plant shelf: on the design side, the architect, interior designer, lighting designer, and kitchen designer all collaborate to coordinate and develop every detail.

Then the architect works with the contractor, whose team includes the cabinet installer, custom wood shelf maker, metal fabricator, and electrician—each playing a key role in making it real.

Once again, the cadence of the winter season seems to have outpaced my documentation—these progress images have patiently waited their turn.

With the home situated directly along the lake’s edge, the design became an exercise in deliberate spatial choreography, rooted in procession, transparency, and axial alignment. Fenestration was thoughtfully composed to act not merely as openings, but as framing devices—drawing occupants through the plan with a sense of quiet inevitability toward the water beyond. Sightlines were carefully orchestrated to gradually reveal the lake, culminating in expansive view corridors that dissolve the boundary between interior and horizon.

Material transitions and subtle shifts in scale further reinforce this movement, guiding inhabitants through a sequence of spaces that feel both intentional and immersive.

Another project nearing completion—final photography to follow this spring, once the landscape and light fully collaborate with the architecture.

Excited to share the final renderings for our project in Arkansas! Nestled atop a hillside, this Mountain Modern retreat features dramatic, rooflines with deep overhangs that echo the rugged mountain styles of Montana and Utah.

Crafted with timber framing and native stone accents, the architecture exudes rustic elegance while offering robust structural integrity. Expansive glazing and open-plan interiors merge seamlessly with the outdoors, inviting natural light and sweeping views inside.

The thoughtful massing steps with the hill, giving the impression that this home has grown organically from the landscape. It’s a design grounded in place—effortless, bold, and intimately connected to its environment.
